Hi from the uk with my roadster.

This is my first 370z. These are rare beasts over here , I have never seen a roadster until I got mine. Have owned lots of Nissans over the years mostly s chassis and a skyline.

I bought this car as a project with a broken roof and a stuck boot lid. Slowly working through the jobs. Unfortunately this is the only pic I have at the moment.

Welcome sir or ma'am.

Was the car involved in an accident since it has a broken roof and stuck boot lid?

Good luck sir, the top can be read with diagnostic tooling. The FSM has a thorough guide to follow to manually determine your problem.

The top assembly(Whole thing) brand new is $20,000. You find many of them cheap because how much different the top electronics are vs the 350z.

These unlike the 350z have a boot switch that wont let operation happen if its not making contact. This needs to be checked prior to anything else.

Getting the storage lid to open and close should be your second step. From there you can test the motors and figure out if your issues are motors or sensors/switches not making the necessary contact.

Note: Nissan sensors and switches are pretty stout, even convertible switches as well. Many times is the deterioration and hardening of the top that prevents these sensors and switches to properly make contact.

Good luck!

No the release cable had stretched so the manual key did not work. Also I could not open it on the button as the roof was in fault and was not locked shut.

I had to remove the bumper and drill a hole behind the latch to release it and then tension the cable.

Thanks for the info. I had damaged cables to the rear cover so the roof would not lock shut. I also had a stretched cable so the manual boot release would not work.

I also have the broken frame mounts on the main frame. That’s fixed too.

Now started on the crusty rear subframe and braces. Subframe removed and start derusting.

Did not expect this much rust on a 370z. The UK does put frames through hell huh?

Nismo9 12-23-2022 02:57 PM

It’s odd because the body is fine it’s just the rear subframe.

From my assumption:

Having a broken/not functioning top = to me a car cover which creates a ton of moisture and since it doesn't fully cover the underneath of the car this is were it traps a ton of it.

It’s possible. The body underneath is fine aswell.
