Hi guys:
Looking forward to learning all about this wonderful car. Got mine in January and it went straight into storage. Only one test drive to confirm I can "sort of" remember how to drive stick shift and then whisked away until spring. I have been visiting it and drooling over it and waiting for winter to end. Cannot wait to drive it. That one little test drive and I LOVED it. It fit like a glove. Going to read and listen and learn all about it for now. This girl loves her trucks...but this little car is just something special. And once I practice a few hill starts I will feel much better about it. There is ALWAYS an expensive car right on your bumper when you do your first hill start. Always. |

Thanks all. I can hardly wait to officially join the family by driving this beauty. I think I can manage the stick shifting, I'm just out of practice a bit. I notice the four way flashers are conveniently close to the gear stick. So I can do it in three smooth moves: stall, hit the flashers, throw it into first and try again. :-) Maybe an apologetic wave the the Mercedes on my butt.
I have had other manual cars but not for awhile. I had (whispers in shame) a Hyundai Pony, a Datsun, and a Fiat X19...and while the Pony and the Datson were diabolical, I didn't trash the clutch in any of them. The Fiat was utterly useless mechanically - but fun. Tons of fun...when it worked and bit of hoses weren't flying off in my face. It was my daily driver in the snowbelt for a couple of years. I must have been insane at the time. (but 2 guys could always lift it back on the road for me, it was light). Last edited by Canada Sam; 02-14-2017 at 07:48 AM. |

The Z is not the easiest manual in the world to drive because of the clutch feel - but you will get used to it.
If you are interested in modding though, a company called RJM (not to be confused with another company called RJ Manufacturing) makes a replacement clutch pedal assembly that everyone who buys it seems to swear by in fixing the pedal feel and making the car much easier to drive. I have one myself in a box waiting to be installed.

Well I liked it when I drove it...and didn't make too big a hash of it, but I will keep that in mind. I hope that after a few days of consistently driving it I will be OK.
I learned on a Volkswagon manual and there is nothing easier than that. But the Pony and the Fiat X19 were kind of tricky. I am hopeful I can figure this one out without leaving a trail of transmission parts on the road behind me. |
