New Here
Hey all, new member here. Made this account because I am trying to gain some insight on the 370z. Looking into trading my 09 Civic Si for a 09 370z.

Welcome! You'll find pretty much everything you need to know. And ahhh... yeah. Trade up quick. |
Welcome! :tiphat:
Good luck with your search for the right Z. If you have questions, post 'em up! |
The two main concerns are CSC failure and also if the 2009 model year burns oil?
I heard that CSC failure is pretty much a given However how common is oil consumption in the 09? |

I have had zero issues with oil consumption on my '09. I check it regularly, but can't remember ever having to add oil between changes. Here's my two cents on a couple of things to mull over if you're considering an '09 - 1.) Immediately address the strong possibility of the steering lock failing. There are numerous threads about fixes and work-arounds. 2.) Invest in a quality (read: not Mishimoto) oil cooler. Preferably thermostatic. Again, good luck! |
Plenty of great information here on either basic/complex repairs to great mods. Welcome and good luck!
|
Yes the steering lock will be bypassed immediately with a snip of a wire. I will prolly end up doing the zspeed upgraded CSC and hope no oil is consumed.

I am stuck between a 5.0 mustang and the z. I admit the power of the mustang makes me want it but IMO the Z looks so much better and Handles akf better too

See link in my sig for a recap of ESCL posts - hasn't been updated in years but there hasn't been any new info during that time. While CSC failure doesn't seem to be rare, people tend to report failures of anything more often than they do units that last a life-time. And we're probably not dealing with a representative sample of 370Zs, using the members of this site. Ie, it doesn't appear to be something to lose a lot of sleep over but you need to be prepared for it to happen. Lot's of good info on this site about trouble-shooting the problem and how to fix it if you are a DIYer. The oil-consumption problem seems to be a lot like the CSC - not very common but very serious when it does happen. If the powertrain warranty is still in effect, Nissan should fix it. A lot more info on this site. |
It being an 09 I believe the warranty would be expired. It does come with a 6 month 6000 mile warranty tho.

What is the power train warranty ? Length
|
I'll have to dig out my paperwork to get the specifics. I just remember that I had x number of miles, or 2 years, whichever comes first. Two years will be up before the mileage.
Maybe someone knows off the top of their head. If not, I'll try to find the paperwork later tonight. |
Congrats on your decision and welcome! Tons of great info here.

Congrats and welcome to the family!
