From being a GTR owner now back to a Z owner.
HOLA AMIGOS!!
I just wanted to thank the folks at 370z.com for creating this forum. I had a blast on this forum in the past and unfortunately had to create a new username since I was gone for so long and forgot all my info. I was on GTRLIFE for a good while but since I sold my 2014 GTR Premium (Gun Metal), I'm now back on the 370z forum. I just bought a 2016 Pearl White Z. This is my second as I had an 2011 Silver Z w/sport pkg. I'm loving the pearl white with the black rims. The 19" Rays just don't do it for me anymore. Anyways, if your thinking about getting a GTR and can afford it, think long and hard about it. For me it was just too much car for the road and not worth the $1350 a month payment. It was a garage baby for the most part. I would drive it one or two days a week, wash and then put away. Stick with the Z, it's got the looks despite the design being 6 years old and it's a blast to drive. It's just a more practical car. I just thought I would mention, the primary reason I'm back on here is for the 'DIY's". I bought the base model AT7 and didn't realize that they did away with the paddle shifters prior to making my decision. So my first mod is guess what? Exactly! The GTR had the same paddles but they were "magnesium" and the finish was rough. The new oem paddles seem to be more refined. This car will be an ongoing project for me and I look forward to contributing as much as possible to this forum. Thanks to all!!! |
Congrats!

Post pictures of your new Z we would like to watch porn cars!
What else did you not like about the GTR aside from being impractical? The GTR design is getting old and loosing its appeal for me. My Z still looks as sexy as the first day I bought it in 2011. |
I agree with, Zoren. The Z is still a sexy looking car. The GTR on the other hand, is loosing its appeal to me, too. I am not sure what the hype is all about with the GTR. Sure its fast and gives good numbers at a bargain price, but looks wise (which is important to me), its not really that appealing most of the time. To me its just too big for my liking. While I still like the look of the Z and has not lost much appeal to me over the years, I am really drooling over the Cayman S and the 911's (hell even some of the new Boxter S).

Congrats and Welcome back! :hello:

Welcome back and congrats on your new Z! :tiphat:

Here are some pics of Godzilla.
What I disliked about the GTR? Too many interior parts can be found in even the cheapest of Nissan vehicles. They need to call it "Frankenstein" not "Godzilla"...The noises and the heat the transmission generates is crazy. Transmission sounds crunchy/ clunky at slow speeds. Brakes squeal pretty bad (unwanted attention for car of that price) and the wheels, Calipers rattle horribly..Leather was kinda cheapish and center console was so easy to scratch. Worst part was the $300 oil changes. Dealers are ridiculous when it comes to maintenance on that car. The damn oil filter can be found in lower end Nissan's but they still want to charge a ridiculous amount. I still love the GTR and I can tell you the positives outweigh the negatives. I actually looked at the paddle shifter DIY. I ordered the lower shroud and the paddles but they don't come with the damn screws. Anyone know the screw and the nut sizes? I will post the new Z pics later on today.. Thanks in advance to whomever tells me the screw/bolt/ nut sizes.. |
welcome back dude!!!

Being someone who plans to own a GTR one day, I appreciate your feedback on your experience with yours! To me, it's just THE car on the road that I want to own and keep forever. But... I do understand there's so much more than the purchase price and sales tax that comes with the GTR.
How was the maintenance and insurance costs? Anything else that is alarming that people don't think about until they purchase one? It seems everyone has something different to say regarding this topic. I know you mentioned the oil changes, for one. |
I like the GTR a lot but like someone said.... i find it to big :/ thats the reason if i have to choose between the R34 or R35 Gtr... im going to pick up the R34 all day long... is my dream car and i hope to own one someday... the problem is that here in PR i can get one until 2025 i think soo :shakes head:

Throw a twin turbo kit on the Z and you won't miss the GTR THAT much. I know you can't really compare the two due to AWD and RWD, but let me tell you, a 500hp Z is more than fun.
Not bagging on the GTR. I love the car. I just know that ill never be able to afford one and do the things that I want to it. So ill stick to my beloved Z cars. |
Congratulations OP!:tiphat:

Sorry, I just find this statement very humorous considering you are comparing it to a car that has both a back seat and a trunk. I've absolutely loved daily driving my Z for the past three years, but practical is definitely not a word that comes to mind :icon17: :driving: Welcome back!! :tiphat: |
Congrats on the Z and the purchase! cant wait to see picture of the Z as well. Nice GTR and I will pick up an R34 all day long compared to the R35. R35 is jut too big and bulky
Welcome to the forums! :worship: |
