New 2012 Nismo Owner
Hello Everyone Happy New Year
Just purchased a 2012 Nismo 370Z. It has been through freshwater flood damage salvage rebuild title... Everything checked out inspection wise.. I ended up trading my 335i 2010 with 40k miles + $3000 cash for my Z 2012 Nismo with 19.5k Miles.. (Covered all sales tax and title fees) My BMW trade valued around $20,000 but talked the guy into $22,000 for my car and the dealership had the Nismo listed for $28,500 and I chewed up him good because of the salvage title. I never owned a salvage car but fell in love with the styling of the Z so at the end of the day i just had to have it. Also got a Full 1 year warranty. Anything I should look for with flood damage? Any Locals in the area with a NISMO that we could compare? I'm in NY 11756 Ive owned about 15 cars.. Comming from my last one a 335i with FBO and Stage 2 turbos/ tune making about 500 WHP.. The Z is a bit sluggish so any advice and experience on what to mod/ not to waste my time with is appreciated. Fav car owned was my S2000... I might get killed for saying that on a Nissan forum :worship: =) I have already purchased Stillen header / Art Pipe Takeda CAI and Catback... Nothing installed.. too cold here.. Im an engineer and always looking to make things better.. i will try to do what motor dyne and z1 have done to the intake plenum.. I will let you all know how I make out with it and offer it to the forum at a much cheaper cost then those companies and hopefully improve on what they have. Thanks for reading John http://i377.photobucket.com/albums/o...2/IMG_8455.jpg |
Congrats & Welcome! BTW, that's a very nice looking salvage.
An S2000 as your fave, seriously?? J/K, it's a well respected and liked car on this forum. I got the same color FRS sitting in my driveway as well. It's my sons, but I do get to drive it whenever I want and that's really a fun car also. Not meaning to waste your time as I can't help you cause, I'm not a flood or engine mod expert but just wanted to extend an Aloha! |
Ballzy move john, the Z however looks great! as far as mods if you want the Z to perform anything like your 335 FI is the way to go, everything else with a tune including headers, catback, manifold, intakes will give you at best 320-330 whp and I am being generous. Good luck

As far as the headers if they are long tube I don't think you will need the art pipes bud.

Not going forced induction on this one... It really will turn into a money pit.. The upgraded turbos i bought were about $2800... then you needed all new gaskets and oil lines... shipping / tax / install i was over $4000 at that point.. Little did i know that was the calm before the storm...then everything started to break  spent another $4000 on fuel pump / clutch / install Dont turbo your car unless you have money to burn lol Thanks for the feedback everyone |
Normally, here's where I would tell you to be wary of a salvage title car, especially one that was totalled from flooding. But, I'll bet my house it'll still be more reliable in the long run than a modded turbo BMW. :rofl2:
Make sure you've got some money set aside for a replacement clutch slave. It's not an if, it's a when. |

Clutch slave .. =( How much for part? Whats the typical labor cost What are some tell tale signs that it needs to be replaced? BMW = Big money wasted :rofl2: |
You'll know when it dies. The clutch pedal will be on the floor. There's no warning. It just fails suddenly. The heavy duty aftermarket part is $300 or so, but you have to drop the transmission to replace it. That means you need to think about changing the clutch and flywheel at the time since the tranny will be out.

Love the S2000 and nice pick up on the Z. WEl come and congrats!!!
|
Clutch slave an issue for the 2012 too??? I'm at 40k no issues yet.

Another OEM will just fail again. There's a few aftermarket options. That's the way to go.
