2009, but new to me

I am new to the Z family. I just got my 370z on Saturday, and my GTI has been sitting since. The Z gives me chills when I drive it, and its stock. Its a base model with the sport package, and manual tran. I love the big brakes and the Rays.

I do have a question. I have been lurking around here and I see a lot of do your own research and listen to this youtube clip, but I can't find what I am looking for. I don't want to wake the neighborhood, or draw unnecessary attention to my rocket, but I want the engine to breath better. I know there is more potential just waiting to be unleashed. What part of the exhaust is the most restrictive and what will give the most gains without raising the decibel level too much? Any help would be appreciated.

I am planning on opening up the air flow with some exhaust mods, then a CAI. I read somewhere you can really wake the 3.7 up with an upgraded cam, put some dot4 in my brake lines, then I will finish it off with some suspension mods. The car sticks to the road like glue right now, that's why its last on my list. I am all for putting go fast in the car, I just don't want it to be very loud. The body turns enough heads for me. The car is my daily driver, so I am going to wrap the Rays in some conti ultra high performance all seasons. I am OK with that!

Tanks for reading my plan and any advice,
John

Muffler and cats

instead of CAI you should just get k&n drop in filters.
also recommend you to get an oil cooler kit

I was wondering if a CAI is just a cosmetic detail, or if really improves the performance. The dual intake seems like it would pass enough air for natrually aspirated engine. This is just my opinion though. Thanks for the advice.

my intakes (stillen) def gave me a performance bump. As for the exhaust it all depends on your personal preference of brand. I would say search and browse around you will find something you like. I went with borla, and it is perfect, not to loud not too soft, lil raspy and deep, but loud as hell when I open her up. :icon17:

good luck and welcome!

Welcome, fellow MD'er

Long tube CAI's get the best gains. Pop chargers will get you a small gain and decent sound. Post MAF tubes and K&N filters alone will give you a bump with little difference in sound.

When looking into exhaust mods, normal CBE's aren't THAT much louder. The Nismo exhaust gives gains without much more noise. But if you replace your stock cats with HFC's or Test Pipes, you'll be extremely loud.

After hours of sound clips, I'm going to go with the tanabe medalion and y pipe. I think it's a good place to start.
