Welcome to the family.

No matter how you break it in these engines are built very well,I wouldn't worry about it at all.

LOL! Well, I made sure I wasn't going end up broke after buying her! ;) I agree that the modding can get costly, but I'm down with it! Gotta have a separate budget just for that!

Congrats! & welcome! Most suggest taking it easy till 1200 miles without revving past 4000 rpm.... others will say it doesn't matter...I say take it easy...it's only 1200 miles and will give u a better opportunity to learn the car at the same time.

Thanks guys! That's what I heard, too, from the dealership. But I heard some different things from car enthusiasts online, so I wanted to hear your thoughts! I'll take it easy on her, but it's hard to resist revving it up!!!

i love white too!

Welcome to the "dream car club!" I got mine a little over a month ago. Beautiful white stallion you have there. I broke mine in by driving normal and opening it up a little. I dont think i put it over 5500 rpms for the first 1200 miles. You can still hit 100mph without going over 5500Oil changer right after that so i could clean out the shavings and yuk from the factory. meachanic friend tell me that you have to open her up a bit in order to get those gear shavings off.... just dont redline her until you get your first oil change!!! I guess now its time to save some more money to.mod her.... damn z owners cant leave good enough alone!!! Lol

Thanks for the input! What do you mean by "shavings"? Do you know of any threads that talk about it? I'm keeping it under 4000 rpm at the moment; just filled my first tank of gas yesterday! It's hard to resist revvingi t up!! What type of gas do you put in? I'm using 91 octane. First oil change is scheduled in September.... sounds like a long time! LOL

Viera 06-13-2012 01:48 PM

Lmao, all these guys....

But anyways, welcome and congrats on getting a Z! White is sho pwetty.. Keep her under 4k rpms until around 1200 miles. Give or take. Do not turn VDC off until you get used to the power :) Drive safely~

What you could do to protect her for the future is get a magnetic oil plug and maybe magnetic oil sleve to keep the shavings and metal deposits from floating around in the engine.

This is the first time I'm hearing about shavings. What is that? What is a magnetic oil plug or sleeve? Do you know any good threads that talk about this? Sorry for being such a noob! I'm learning! LOL

Congrats!!! I picked up my pw in March and absolutely love it. I opened up slightly under 1k miles but nothing pushing the car too hard... I didn't know it was possible to buy one and not open up at least a little? Haha. But around 1000 miles I installed my exhaust and am fully convinced that it is impossible not to open it up when it is a little louder and sounds so clean... And mean for that matter. So yeah definitely wait till you get that exhaust and fall in love with the sound all over again. Again congrats on the dream car purchase, you won't regret it, this car has been amazing on all levels :)

I'm already sold on the exhaust! Someday..... someday. Will update if I get it done! LOL

chknhawk 06-13-2012 02:38 PM

No prob. I dont think any of us on here are experts.... we all know what we know. So the gears in the motor wear down over time and create metal deposits in the oil. I have been reading in other forums about it. I dont remember if i saw it here or not. Basically the magnets collect the metal deposits and keep them from circulating in the oil and through the engine. A lot of cars now come with magnetic plug bolt standard. The oil filter sleeve helps this as well and keeps deposits in the filter so when the filter is changed and oil is changed the metal deposits are removed. Maybe shavings was a harsh word to use. Lol.
