leave VDC on, i got my Z when i turned 18 and after driving it for a few months decided to show off a little and turned off the VDC and luckily did no damage to the car or anyone else or myself but i spun it and gave myself a nice reality check

Thats why I suggested it, because I doubt the kids even thought of it.

But, knowing now what you did then, if you had some parents who were loaded enough to get you a 370Z as your first car, dont you think they'd be willing to consider flipping another $1000 or something for a quality advanced drivers class? Think of the long term effects down the road not only for their insurance, but the safety of their kid and the lesser potential of wrecking the Z.

If you honestly think that, at 17, this is a perfectly safe idea...you probably need a reality check of your own lol. The only 17 year-olds I'd even remotely trust with a car like this, are ones who's parents are actively involved in the track scene (like kart racing) that give their kid the chance to race before they even have their license.

Something tells me, this isn't the case.

ok yea, the Z isn't the best for a new driver/kid, but really isn't that big of a difference. Any car goes fast enough to kill/hurt you.

I had a '93 nissan pick-up when I was 17. I remember burning off at ex girlfriend's houses in ultimate furry ALOT when I was 17-19. Mainly because they were a bitch, or cheated, or just pissed me off in general. The fact that I didn't have 332 HP to use in my anger, probably saved my life.

At 23 with a clean driving record, a Class A CDL, and weeks worth of driver training, tests etc, I have STILL almost wreck the Z.

This thing is powerful and it has to be respected.

Naivety IMHO. I would find the best car for $1000 to give my kid. Once they proved they could go without a ticket/accident for a couple years, THEN I'd help them out.

Naivety, nah. Parents that do this think their kids are deserving and/or trustworthy.

Anyways, OP, I was in your shoes at your age. A word of advice: the next year is about SURVIVAL. You are going to be tempted to do a lot of things you shouldn't do with this car. Whether or not you live to see adulthood depends on the decisions you will have to make. Good luck

Congratz! welcome to the forum and an amazing car.

I was 19 when i bought my mustang GT.. and i crashed it quite a few times. Now 30 and in my 370z with 15years drive time and 11 years behind the wheel of a manual sports car, i still had a very close call in the Z.

I was being dumb and racing some kids in their dealer plate 350z. The kid must have recently bought it. I Lost control passing him around a corner and almost put my tail in his window, but regained control of the slide at the last moment. It was a reality check for sure.

However, don't let to many of us scare you away from enjoying yourself, but do try to practice some restraint. With great power comes even greater responsibility!

Or to hell with it, live life on the edge and risk trashing your dream car!
