FINALLY! (Youngest 370z Owner?)

My Z has finally arrived off the truck. It's at the dealership. Going there to put a deposit on it tomorrow. Then I will finish the paper work next week and drive it home and supply pics + videos.

7AT Black base model with Splash Guards - $30,813

gunna add on the factory spoilers so prolly another $500

Insurance is about $860 every 6 months.

I think I may be the youngest 370z owner. Still 16 now. Won't have my license for another month.

But before anyone yells and points and calls me a rich spoiled kid, I'm paying for more than half the car. (I'll be personally paying about $280 a month towards the car)

:D :D :D :D :D so happy

dad 02-13-2009 07:25 PM

Drive safe. Be proud!:driving:

ctzn 02-13-2009 08:05 PM

Please be safe, I see way to often when young kids are handed WAY more of a car than they can handle and people are killed. Seems like every couple of months someone posts something new over at my350...

Be thankful Hraes isn't over here, and be careful.

When I was 16 all I could afford was a 89 Accord and I still worked my *** off. It took my first job after graduating College before I picked up a 350Z, there is no way I would have been ready financially or mature enough to have that car when I was 16.

Good luck with it.

nogoodname 02-13-2009 08:11 PM

young padawan capo, be safe while driving and that's great that you can afford such things at a young age

LenZToy 02-13-2009 08:54 PM

Wow....souinds like you might be a hard worker. My first car in 1979 was a 1968 Chevy...with rust and all and I loved it because I paid for it...of course I paid $750, but I paid for it! Good luck young man and congrats!

nogoodname 02-13-2009 08:57 PM

^^ i paid one whole dollar for my 1st car and i still have it

SocalBurt 02-13-2009 09:05 PM

Congrats, I must echo everyone's comments and also I urge you to keep it on the track if you know what I mean. The 370 is allot of car and tempting to just drive it balls out but please be safe, you know its fast thats what counts and not treating every light like a drag race. If any thing use it to reel in the chicks lol!

CSXJoe 02-13-2009 10:47 PM

Congrats. Im 18 and i just orderd mine. Been saving my money sence i was 14 so i could buy a car when i was 18. Payed off already :p

Fahlin Cho 02-13-2009 10:57 PM

Wish I was still young and living at home that's how I afforded to get my 93 RX-7.

capo190 02-13-2009 11:49 PM

Thanks guys and I appreciate the comments.

I totally agree with the "not treating every light like a track" mentality. SO many kids have that mentality these days. Everyone tries to show off their cars and tries to see how fast they can hit on the highway and ****. I don't need to show off with my car, baby.....i already kno it can smoke anyones :D except for the many 2009 M3's that kids at my HS own. Ridiculous ****. Atleast I put in hard work for my car. But giving $70k+ cars to 17 year olds without makin them pay? **** I was I had THAT kinda money.

II'm not a racer and I fear the road. Which is a good thing, because the minute you don't fear the road is when you get careless and get into an accident

Also, high def videos/pictures will be available as soon as the car gets in my driveway. So let me know what type of video shots you'd like to see so I can get em ready for you.

AK370Z 02-14-2009 12:45 AM

Congrats. Keep it safe. :driving:

Congratulations Capo - It's a wonderful feeling, isn't it? I'll never forget the day my - $hit, I forgot - but at my age that's normal.

Oh yes, I remember - the day I managed to get to the dealership to see my beautiful black 350z arrive on the back of a truck, still in its protective plastic wrap. Did you manage to see yours all wrapped up?

As for age, it's not age that matters, it's personality. You're either stupid or you're not. I know really cool young people and really stupid old ones. Having said that, as someone who cycles quite a lot, I know that it's young males who generally appear to be the most dangerous drivers. I get the feeling that you're not one of them though.

I have no idea how much experience you have with RWD sports cars, but if you're new to them I have just one helpful tip - be very gentle/progressive with your accelerator foot - if you're brutal with it, you'll lose the back end of the car when you don't want to, even if you're going slowly - especially in the wet.

Am I rambling again? Oh well, it's the privilege we old folks have.

As for the poor M3 owners - they NEED to show off, just to prove they're not driving any old boring saloon car. Whereas you already got the look! Which reminds me...

:worthless:

zero 02-14-2009 10:24 AM

Congratulations! Becareful with your right foot. It's RWD car so pay more attention on driving when the road conditions are bad.

Yeah it's gunna be hard getting used to the Z. I been driving my mom's Jeep commander for a year now since I've had my permit. When I test drove the 370 it was so weird getting into such a tiny car. Plus I don't think I've ever driven a RWD car. It'll take a while...

CSXJoe 02-14-2009 11:49 AM

Ive been driving a tahoe and a pt cruiser so its gonna be a BIG change for me lol.

Here we go....

RCZ 02-16-2009 12:46 AM

Just some advice capo.. If you are ever in a situation where you are wondering whether you should or you shouldn't do something, the right answer is don't do it. If you think you are going too fast, you are. Don't ever try "something new" on the street. Don't try to impress your buddies. This is NOT a good first sports car at such a young age... Its tail happy and powerful enough to get you into trouble real quick... Leave that VDC switch alone please...

Also, since you are so young..you can use that to convince your parents to let you take a high performance driving course. Just tell them you want to take it to feel more comfortable. They will probably go with it and you will have a blast. I guarantee that. They teach you how to drift without losing control and other fun stuff. Its one of the most fun things I did with my old car.

Oh yeah, really enjoy the car!!

Crash 02-16-2009 01:52 AM

^^^^ Hey! That's the best advice I've ever seen on the internet!

+1 Rep.

That's good advice to someone who is new to Z's. I didn't start turning VDC/ESP off on my 350z until I really knew the car well ...Now I turn it off every time I get into the car, except in really dodgy conditions.

However, nobody should use VDC as a substitute for good driving - it can do funny things to your control of the car (like try to take it out of your hands!).

Crash 02-16-2009 03:01 PM

It doesn't steer for you does it?

:rofl2:

Not exactly, but as you may know, if your rear end starts sliding the VDC will try to correct it, possibly in a way you're not expecting, leading to all sorts of slipping & sliding. For example it caused me to fishtail once while overtaking and my rear end nearly swung back into the side of the bus I was passing. Sometimes it's easier to correct a slide yourself, if you know what to do.

CSXJoe 02-16-2009 03:55 PM

Ive always wanted to take them classes. I love drifting but have never done it.

DO IT.

Drifting is the biggest fun. I had a day drifting at Silverstone in one of these...

Yeah - and then practise, practise, practise would be the next step - If only I could, but I have nowhere to do it :(

CSXJoe 02-16-2009 04:23 PM

same here closest place is over an hour away.

dave 02-16-2009 04:56 PM

be carefull this is way more car then a 16yr should have so just be smart. the minute you dont respect the car it could hurt you even kill you. i have owned many sports cars with high horse power and believe me you need to take it slow an learn how the car handles. be safe and enjoy ,just be careful.

ssqpolo 02-16-2009 05:48 PM

nice ppl

first of all, i would like to applaud everyone here for being so open to a 16 yr old getting a Z. on my350z, this kid woulda had to put a flamesuit on.
like people have said before, its not the age, its the maturity. my first car was a sports car, and I havent changed the theme since, and i have yet to be in an accident (thank God). Have fun, but be careful in the rain/snow. I can say keep it to the track, but there will be those times when some gay srt-4/evo/sti will wanna race...u shouldnt do it, but you will and its fun, just be careful. anyway, Congrats! and welcome to the community!:driving:

ssqpolo 02-16-2009 05:56 PM

:icon18:Holy crap man! That was my first car! When I was 15 my Dad got me a superlight r500. that car was fantastic! i used to fly around everywhere. It was like a big go-cart. as fun as it was, it was super impractical. unfortunately, my mom said that i will get myself killed in it and sold it when i was on a polo trip. that was gay, but then i got a Z!

my first car was a pearel white 76' Buick Century with red vinyl interior. My retired neighbor gave it to me after years of shoveling her snow. It only had 20k miles on it and I got soooooooo many compliments and offers to buy it. I probbaly got 8 MPG tho. I wish I still had it but I gave it to my brother when I went to college.

Z34drifty 02-18-2009 02:41 AM

You are lucky my first car was a 98 Camry. Too bad it got rear ended by a semi and totaled.
So I have one thing to say beware of semi's.^^
I would say you should go around couple thousand miles before you really see how she feels.

Ah... Traction control on my Trans Am did that to me. I started turning it off once I got the hang of my car. I tried doing a reverse 180 once and forgot to turn off TCS, and as soon as I turned the wheel, the car straightened out and wouldn't let me do the 180. LOL

BanningZ 02-18-2009 06:41 AM

You are extremely lucky to be afforded such an opportunity at such a young age.
Remember that any RWD vehicle is going to handle differently than one that is FWD or AWD.

Take it slow and easy. This car has a lot of power and little weight for a stock vehicle, but this
may be a wonderful experience for you to have a high powered RWD vehicle to start out on.

This 370Z shows itself off, so you don't need to show off for it.

I many times in the past have been frustrated with a slow driver in front of me, and in my
frustration when I had an opportunity to pass, I put the pedal to the floor. In a fwd car this is
easy enough(though not smart), but in a RWD vehicle with usable power, you can easily lose control.
Fishtailing can be scary if done unintentionally, and can lead to a major collision.

I agree with earlier posters that suggested taking a track safety course. Driving schools are lots of
fun and will provide you with knowledge and experience that will last you all the years you are on the road.

"With great power, comes great responsibility"-Old guy that was killed in a movie

I always think of people driving the same model as me, as another spokesperson for that model, and when
I see another driver do something irresponsible and dangerous, I always see it as reflecting poorly on me.

So be safe, keep your car safe, and don't let anyone have a reason to think that just because a person is
young that they have to be a bad driver.

Most of all Congratulations on owning an iconic piece of automotive history.

Cheers!

Ohhhh yeah. Just read this thread on my350z: The worst has happened : [ - MY350Z.COM Forums

Anyways, some advice to you...
1. Don't let your friends drive no matter what. Don't mess up your car and your friendship.
2. Stable throttle control especially in the rain.
3. Stay away from inner left lanes when raining to avoid hydroplaning
4. Don't accelerate through turns. Remember, we're RWD!
5. Always try to find the biggest parking lot available. I hate it when careless people place dings and scratches on my door.
