Thats funny. I doubt it would really work for me. What do dealerships do in situations like this when they have to go say 400 miles to pick up a car. Do they drive the car they're trading one way and drive the car they're picking up the other way?

No, 9 out of 10 times the releasing dealer does not want a 400 mile vehicle back in return for inventory. They will most likely do an outright purchase and send up two drivers in a chase car to get yours.

k.alex...keep us informed. I wouldn't want to have to agonize over this decision. I'd have to wait for something nearby, especially if I couldn't get exactly what I wanted. Good luck!

Well, I am glad to report that the dealership ended up getting me the car they originally promised me. This is the car that was just 25 miles down the road. I havent decided whether or not to put the whole story online for everyone to read.
I will say that I had one of the worst customer service experiences at the Woodbury NJ Nissan dealership, and the only reason I stuck with it (although I was this close to telling them to f off) was because I didnt think anyone would match the $500 under invoice deal that I got from them. Bottom Line: I just got back from picking the car up, and am beyond happy to put this whole ordeal behind me. For those of you that don't have one yet, IT IS A MONSTER! Wish me luck

Glad you got that behind you. Its not with your selling dealers control if another dealer is going to swap out a car or not. Your dealer made about $340.00 total profit on that deal so I wouldn't be so hard on him/her.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I was definitely going to take pics today, as I worked on my "retired" car, getting it ready to put up for sale. Had the camera with me, the Z sitting all shiny in the sun, all day.....forgot all about it.
Best i can do is this shot, mine is the PG 370 on the right. (see this thread for more background info: Funny thing happened to me on the way home tonight... )

Honestly, I did get a great deal, but it was almost worth paying an extra few hundred bucks just so as not to go through this horrendous process. Oh well, all's well that ends well.
