ZOMG! One more sleep!

I started looking for a new car over a year ago from a long list of candidates. I must've started settling on the Z about a year ago because I found an insurance quote dated May 2009. I made the decision to buy in early 2010 and placed the order at the end of February.

I got the call on Tuesday that it was in! I went down after work to have a look and even fired up the engine.

They're prepping it now and tinting the windows. I pick it up tomorrow afternoon!!

I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve! Times a million!

2010 Carbon Silver (aka PG) / Persimmon, Touring 6MT + Sport + Nav + Tint

Gah! I hope I can get some sleep! This will be my first new car in just under 10 years.

My excitement was only slightly dampened to see another new Carbon Silver 370Z sitting right beside it (though with black interior, no Nav) on the lot waiting to be picked up by someone else in Ottawa. D'oh! I've still only 370Z's 3 other times on the road here in Ottawa, but I always new year by year there'll be more (but that's for another thread...)

Congrats! Be sure to post pictures once you get the car.

congrats

susu 05-06-2010 08:58 PM

lol I know what u mean. Mine was after >13 years with my trusty Pathfinder which I still have and intend to keep for my winter drive and towing my boat. Imagine sister engine 3.3L engine 186HP before and now to 3.7L 334HP! after all these years.
I am a bit surprised you didnt go for the "new" 2009 models which would have net you some savings

prichardson 05-06-2010 09:08 PM

Thanks!

I kinda liked the idea of getting exactly what I wanted. And the fact that I'd be getting one right off the factory floor built exactly to my specs made it even more tempting. I just ask that no one tells me how much I could have saved. ;)

I'll get some pics up once I figure out how...

Congrats on the Z!

Did you manage to get any sleep? I remember I lost sleep for a day or two. I was ready to buy it on a Monday, but the car wasn't PDI'ed when I came to pick it up that evening. Had to then wait until Wednesday. Drove me nuts!

I did manage to get some sleep. Even better - I dreamed I was driving it! Today I got to drive it in real life - she's all mine!

prichardson 05-08-2010 02:38 AM

A few first impressions:
1. All that talk about tire noise? I understand that now. Though I'm willing to accept it as part of owning a 'pure' sports car.
2. Synchro Rev Match? Way cool.
3. Persimmon interior? Also way cool.
4. Rest of the interior? Uber slick.
5. Ride? Not as harsh as I was expecting. But crazy snug / tight.

My wife was following me in her car after I picked it up and told me I snubbed someone in a 350Z Roadster who apparently gave me a nod. If that was you, sorry! I was fixated on not crashing within my first 10 minutes of owning her!

Oh man, I'm giddy! Dream fulfilled! Absolutely no regrets! There is no other car I'd rather have bought!

prichardson 05-08-2010 02:40 AM

Oh, and Jeffblue, congrats to you man!

Sscottfitz 05-08-2010 08:19 AM

Very nice! Congrats on the new Z -- be careful around those "Roadster drivers", they are a very curious lot.......:icon17:

Agree exactly with what you said .... except it was some kids in a sentra that gave me a nod (and i did notice).... even as i was cutting off the entire toll lane (i realized i forgot my EZ pass at the last minute)

Don't you love the color of the interior tho. its SO nice.... the color is a little more tame than in pictures.

Agreed! Alot of the photos make it look brighter than it is. It gives it a little bit of 'flashy' but no 'gaudy.' I love it!

Is it that bad? I've only had the privilege of driving a 2009 Touring model and while I did notice more noise (be it tire or road noise) compared to my Jetta I didn't find it that bad. I'm really interested in buying one but my main concern is this noise business. Do you find that you can still have a conversation without having to yell at the person next to you (my girlfriend likes chatting in the car)? I'm debating wether to go with a new 370Z or a used G37S because of the whole noise issue (the 370Z seemed more fun to drive because you could actually hear it).

shadoquad 05-08-2010 06:18 PM

I don't mind the noise. I'm sure the G is quieter, but part of why I buy a sports car is to hear it. My best suggestion is for you to test drive one with a friend and see if the noise level is acceptable to you.

red6spd 05-08-2010 07:02 PM

Congrats man real nice. Iam still waiting on mine, begining of June its driving me crazy. Ill just look at yours and dream LOL

I wouldn't say 'bad.' I can easily live with it but there may be some eye rolling to put up with from my wife. I definitely bought this for me and she gets that (and she loves it too). This car is crazy sexy and a real head turner. It's also an 'event' each time I get in it. I don't think I'd get nearly the same raw feeling in a G. Don't get me wrong - the G is beautiful, but I think the Z will make your heart pound! The tire noise is noticeable, but IMO absolutely bearable for such a purpose built machine. Above 80 km/h it starts intruding on the conversation a bit, but you don't have to yell. Don't let it be a deal breaker! I see a G pretty much every time I'm out. I've seen a 370Z only four times *total* in Ottawa which makes it feel that much more special!

I feel your pain! I hope it goes by fast for you!

Thanks everyone for the warm sentiments! I've been so impressed with this forum. Barely any flame wars and pretty much any slagging I've seen has been the good natured variety!

Red370 05-14-2010 12:57 AM

Man, you sound as excited as I was when I first got mine after lusting after it for 6 months, congrats. So when are you going to start throwing some power adders on that bad boy?

prichardson 05-17-2010 02:25 PM

I think I'm going to ride the Warranty for at least a few more months ;)

Honestly, though, I'm so happy with the way it rides in stock form, that I don't feel much urge to start tricking it out. Plus I'm only about 1000km into my 2000km break-in, so in a couple of weeks it'll be a whole new car all over again!

Red370 05-17-2010 06:55 PM

you do know the whole break-in thing is a load of BS right? Eh, i guarantee after awhile the tameness of the exhaust will start to bother you, you'll need a CBE asap!

prichardson 05-18-2010 12:34 PM

Ahh, good to see the debate continues. To break in or not to break in? I'm inclined to believe that there is less chance of long term harm to my engine if I do than if I don't and I have the patience to do it (though I have given in to temptation a few times).

So far I'm happy with the exhaust sound, but I shall not say 'never'!

I'm in the same boat here. I've not been completely conservative in my break-in period, but I've been driving it gently overall.

And I'm waiting a while to mod it. May wait out the life of the warranty. Don't know yet.

For now, the beast sounds great. Eventually, I may get CAI/CBE to spice things up.

LinPark 05-18-2010 01:37 PM

For those of you who cheated during the break-in period, I'm sure the little black box has recorded that and when you go in for warranty work be prepared for some very interesting conversations. :stirthepot:

LunaZ 06-07-2010 07:19 AM

I was gonna ask how you got a rear fog light installed so quickly, but then I realized you're in Canada.

Jeffblue 06-07-2010 07:32 AM

the most i went during the break in period was 4500 and not very often. once i got to 1150 i went to 5k 3 times. The other night i passed my 1200 miles and holy ****. I slowed down to about 35 on the lie in the right lane made sure no one was near by and down shifted into second and floored it to 85. AHH! that was so fun! Then this altima was trying to race me i was like ... uh no thanks!

corner3garage 06-17-2010 07:08 PM

Honestly, I wasn't sure if I was getting the fog light or not. All the documentation would say is 'if so equipped'. I knew it was 'so equipped' in Europe but I never found anything definitive for Canada. (Though I probably could've found it somewhere in the forum if I was inclined to burn a calorie!). So it was a pleasant surprise when I picked it up!

I know a lot of people are putting on after market exhaust as one of their first mods, but I gotta say I like the stock sound just fine when I wind it all the way up!
