Unhappy proud to own a 370z.. but,

Wsup all.. just got my car last sunday..
'09 370z touring w/ sports pkg.. came with 245 miles, but got a pretty good deal for it, i think..

Just a question.. do all your 370z's have the "intermittent clanking" noises?
I just took it to the dealer today and they told me that the new transmissions for the 370's come with it...

They also told me that the GT-R's have the same issue and that they make the buyer of a GT-R sign a disclosure against transmission noises and brake noises because they are really loud!!

Is this a normal thing? I just might be a newb.. it is my first manual car so kinda in da dark about things right now..

any help is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks...

The gtr has a dual clutch transmission and it does make mechanical noises. The 370z has either a 7 speed auto or 6 speed manual. The auto makes zero noises.

I have the 6 speed and in 1st gear and on rare occasions on 2nd gear, if you push back down on the clutch, it'll "clank". Not all the times, but sometimes..
it's kinda annoying, but they said it's a normal thing..

Well, yeah it does..
In this case, it's going from 1st to 2nd gear or pushing back down on the clutch on 1st gear... It makes a clanking sound...
The terminology the dealership used was "intermittent clanking"
I thought that was so funny...

I told the mechanic about my problem:
When I push back down on the clutch trying to go to 2nd from 1st or just trying to keep it in 1st gear cuz I'm almost coming to a complete stop, he was like "Oh! That's called intermittent clanking and all the 370's are like that.."

***silence***

and then I had nothing to say...

LOLZ.. pretty funny... you can't make this stuff up!

I experience a similar sound with my 7AT. However, I would describe it as more of a clinging sound and can only hear it when the drivers side window is down. Will have it checked at the next service.

The "intermitten clanking" will be there as long as you slam the clutch or engage it without control. Just try to ease the clutch in and you should be fine. I can make mine clank all day long if I drive lazy. But I don't.

An another note, and its prob nothing, but why did it have so many miles on it? I would have been a little bit apprehensive about the purchase knowing that there were 245 miles of possible test drives on it.

Mine did that while I was crawling in 1st gear (idle rpm) and then pushing the clutch in. It made a few clanks somewhere. I almost thought it was not the trans but rather maybe the exhaust piping hitting something due to engine mounts that are soft. What do you guys think?

Hmmmm.... I've had mine for about 3 weeks and I haven't heard a clank. And I live downtown so lots of shifting. Might be the way I'm used to driving that is compatible with how it likes to be treated. Or .... maybe it's the the audio that is always on so loud it makes everything in my 3 mirrors blurry. Either way, no clanking.

I have to admit that I am embarrassingly in love with this car but a few more things I would add to this list are:

1)Not sure if this happens to everyone but I’m ALMOST 5’6” and when I turn left I can’t see where I’m going because the left hand mirror blocks my entire view. I’m getting used to double checking before doing a left turn but I have to say that the back of my mind says a little prayer for any pedestrian that may be running across as I do so.

2)I agree with the cup holders. It has two seats, it should at least hold two Tim Horton coffees!

3)The musicbox should let you load music from your Ipod. Who buys CDs anymore??

4)The “enter” button in the steering wheel sticks out too much. I hit it once in a while which changes my tunes. Even I don’t like to mess with my tunes!

5)I can hear ever grain of sand and pebble that the tires thrust towards the car as they role over “grit”. Makes me cringe every time!

Other then that …. I am head over heels with this car.
