I bought a Z? Is this a dream?

During the storms in LA a couple of weeks ago I totaled my Acura TL which I liked very much. Hydroplaned on the freeway at 65mph while changing lanes, spun out off the freeway and into a tree. The car was totaled and I had no idea what to get. After looking around for weeks I was still oblivious. My dad and I were driving around and I decided to go to the Mitsubishi dealership to look at EVOs. On the way we came across Nissan and I was like "Hey, let's check out the Maxima, they're pretty nice" still with the mind set that I'd be getting another 4 door sedan. While looking at the 33-34k stickers on them we walked over to a '09 Pearl white Z and my dad saw the sticker and said "hey, this is only $30k" (we hadn't noticed the $5k dealer markup yet). At that point I knew I was gonna leave there with that car and so the negotiating began. We ended up buying it out the door for $28,800 and I was like :happydance:

I fell in love with the car before I had driven it a mile. I've been a car enthusiast for most of my life and this is my first true sports car so needless to say I'm STOKED and can't wipe the smile off my face when I'm driving it.

So the car is a base model, no syncrev, no sports package. I didn't even know the sports package came with the syncrev option but I think if I had known I would've done the same thing. I guess I'm lucky I learned how to heal & toe when I was young.

I installed a system within a week of having the car. I couldn't deal with the stock base model crap (anyone wanna buy the stock headunit?) Kenwood 5140, iphone connector, 6 speakers (Sony Xplode, Rockford Fosgate rear, MB Quart tweeters, powerbass amp, JL Audio 10" sub. There's gonna be custom work to mold the sub into the trunk so it's not a box sitting in an already cramped space. I'll post pics once that's done in a week or two.

I'm also looking to upgrade to an affordable upgraded big break kit because this car will get a lot of track/canyon/autox time and I wanna make sure it stops. Any recommendations on this?

This is the best 370z forum I've come across so I'm glad to be a part of the community. I'll keep up with the events board and see if I can attend some autox/canyon run/meet events near Los Angeles soon and hopefully get to know some cool people.

Ironically, people have been calling me "Z" for about 10 years (I'm 27 now) because my real name is Zohrab (pronounced Zo-rub, it's Armenian) so the "Z" culture and history feels like it's a part of my soul. (Hence the name KingZee, also my xbox live handle if anyone plays Forza 3 or MW2)

I guess that's enough of a formal introduction. I look forward to meeting everyone.

In the meantime, here's a pic of what was left from my Acura you guys might find interesting. The head of my golf driver that was in the trunk was broken and about 10 feet away from the car after the crash. I had bought it a couple of weeks before. :shakes head:

Damn this turned into a long *** post.

Welcome and congrats!

theDreamer 02-12-2010 07:35 PM

Welcome and congrats on the Z, sorry about the Acura they are very nice (I know a few owners with them).
Nice audio upgrade, on the BBK I am not sure exactly as of the best but I am sure some with better knowledge will chime in.

frost 02-12-2010 07:36 PM

Good pic! Welcome.

KingZee 02-12-2010 07:38 PM

just to clarify on the BBK, I'm not looking for the best out there cause after all this I'm not looking to drop a few thousand on a new kit. I'm just looking for the best value.

Thanks!

theDreamer 02-12-2010 07:39 PM

Best value would probably be then to pick up a set from a member here who upgrades their stock BBK. The stock BBK is not bad, just needs a few upgrades to be better (better fluid and pads).

KingZee 02-12-2010 07:48 PM

That's a great idea. I'll keep my eyes open.

:iagree: better then stock (sport), you'll end up at the AP's or Brembo's and that would mean some serious investment. You could also get sports for the rear (I believe a member here still had some on sale) and then get better front brakes.

bullitt5897 02-12-2010 07:52 PM

Hey KingZee,

I have a set of stock sports for sale in the users for sale thread. If you want I can work out a deal with you and get you these brakes. Its a simple swap calipers type of deal and you get an extra set of rotors

I recently upgraded mine to a huge brake kit and need these gone asap so let me know :)

Also, Welcome to the forums and to the Z family!!! you might want to get a premium membership and join in on all the inside jokes and shenanigans that go on around these parts :D

Were the accident on the 134 freeway near glendale and eagle rock ? I'm sorry to hear about your loss with your TL and Congrats on the new Z. Hope to see you around the Eagle Rock / Glendale Area .. I drive the Magnetic Black Z with the fairlady emblem and tinted windows.

Togo 02-12-2010 09:47 PM

Congrats and welcome! :hello:

Yeah, it was right after the Forest Lawn entrance on the 134 before it splits to the 5 south.

I live in Glendale so I'll look for you.

I'm also thinking of getting the car tinted. Does Glendale/Burbank pd give you any **** for front tints?

Thanks for the welcome everyone. And thanks for the heads up Dreamer. I was planning on waiting a bit cause this sound system kinda snow balled on me but I'll see if I can work something out with bullitt.

schrute 02-13-2010 12:56 AM

Welcome KingZee and congrats! Sorry about the TL, that sucks. You got a Z out of it though so that's cool.

LOL @ Bullitt "Huge Break Kit" :rofl2:

I'm going the sport BBK upgrade route as well. Have most of the parts already. The sport package brakes seem to sell fast around here so you may want to jump on that.

Oh, and if you want to just upgrade your fronts I'll take the rears :D:D:D

If u think u are dreaming just take it to the dealership for it's first oil change. After the following depression that ensses from a 100+ dollar oil change you start doing it yourself with a high grade synthetic and enjoy the car more. They are awesome cars and you won't regret it. I love just having the premium interior materials (even base) and it really feels like a nice car.

Also for the sub box check out Zenclosures they are a sponsor here (scroll down on the forum home page) and they make a great box that molds in between the strutbar and shock towers so it looks like it belongs there.

Thanks for the heads up on this, I was just about to leave my house to have the guy that installed mine do the measurements for the custom fitting. He had quoted me $250 for the work. The coupon still works so I just bought the 10" box from Zenclosures shipped for $149. If you're local I owe you a beer.

Schrute, love the name, I don't think I'll be buying the breaks right now, I have to take a break from spending all this money. I probably should have done performance parts before audio but that kinda just snowballed on me.

I'll post pics of the whole setup once I get the box.

This might be a dumb question but does anyone know how to remove a sub from an enclosure to install it in another one? I'm wondering more about the physical removal and installation, not necessarily wiring.

CrownR426 02-13-2010 02:37 PM

Congrats and be safer!
This ain't a FWD anymore, it's RWD!

Usually there's just a few screws that you have to remove then it comes right out. Sometimes there's a trim ring hiding the screw heads, just carefully pry it off.

dszombiex 02-13-2010 02:53 PM

KingZee, if you're looking for an oil change or performance upgrades you should check out Amplified Motorsport.

They're a sponsor of the forums here and their shop is in Monterey Park. I can assure you that they do great work and are good people. Give them a holler if you need anything.

Good to see someone also from the Valley. I'm up here in Northridge.

Thanks, I'll try it out.

dszombiex, thanks for the heads up, I'll check them out. I graduated from CSUN so I know Northridge pretty well, had some good times there. Maybe I'll run into you at a meet.

Yeah, I noticed that. Glad I found you guys.

ferrari_rich 02-13-2010 05:23 PM

Welcome aboard

BTW My last name starts with a Z also

So the Z is kind of cool to have

PS I love my Z. Great cars!!!!

Z_you_Later 02-13-2010 06:37 PM

I think I remember that accident and might have even been in stuck in the traffic ...

Yeah for sure .. I'm always driving up and down Colorado in Eagle Rock or around Glendale.. Jus look for the black Z with color matched door handles ... I haven't signed up for Premium membership yet but, will be doing so soon so I'll also be putting up this forums sticker on my ride to represent !!!

As for the tint I don't get any beef from the PD here in Glendale/Eagle Rock/ Burbank Area but, watch out for PD in Pasadena they caught me slippin one night as I was driving my girl home.

If you need a good spot for tint let me know. I bring all my friends to this spot near Rosemead and the guy there gives great service, real down to earth and with good deals. Enjoy the new whip KingZee and see you around.

Yeah, people were calling me while I was waiting for the tow truck to come like "Hey, was that you I just saw on the side of the freeway?!"

I definitely need a good place for tints, I don't want the sub in the back to be a reason they break into my car...Watcha got?

My head is spinning from reading that 18 page thread on what oil should be used...I'm more confused now than before.

1slow370 02-14-2010 03:29 AM

Nah i'm in wisconsin, so i'll take an extended raincheck on that one, yeah usually there is some kind of rubber or plastic ring that comes off then you pull like 6-8 screws, pull it out and disconnect the wiring.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Watcha got?". So I'll answer it in two ways (haha) ... I use to do audio work on cars a lot in the past, but, since I fell in love with the Touring/Navi with full Bose System I haven't had the want to set up a system. If you were asking bout the tint I got 5 % on the rear window, 20 % on the sides, and 75 % on the front windshield. I think the tinted front windshield makes the car look a lot more sleek but, higher risk of getting pulled over. But, your right you don't want your car getting broken into just because you got anything valuable in the trunk. The rear cargo cover doesn't do justice after you tint, you won't really use that anymore. If you want to go see if my guy at Cali Tint will give you a good deal hit me up and I'll try to go with you. Hope that answers your question .. lolz

haha, I was asking for your recommendation for the tint place...I might go there early Sat. morning if I find time and my girl isn't on my *** about doing something. From reading the yelp reviews for California Tint it looks like these guys are backed up all day. Thanks dude. :driving:

1slow370 02-16-2010 02:19 AM

so far as the oil goes i went to the dealer ship to buy the quarts of ester at first but then i switched to redline motor transmission and gear oil. group five full synthetic and it's still $4 a quart cheaper than the nissan oil. I use a purolater pure one filter (gold metalflake textured paint makes it easy to remove).
