Picked it up tonight - factory order (not much stock on the lot out in the "sticks" of Texas).

Did the 7-speed AT.

Beautiful car, never owned something this nice.

Trying to behave with the breakin and the detailing "muscle," that I never could muster for my 2009 civic, might be waiting to be exercised.

Any advise for a new owner?

Firstly, assuming it's squeaky brand new, just resist the urge to rev and take it for wild rides. Breaking in is simple but takes time and you need to take it easy for the first several hundred miles or so. Once you do your first oil change (pretty soon, after a couple thousand miles or less) then you can start letting loose.

Like warming up before you play a game, you gotta stretch first!

When I bought my new Subaru BRZ, the first thing I did was get paint protection film for the front end. If you want to keep it looking fresh, that's the best way to go. I even got the full hood filmed, and it cost me a bit but it was worth it and the paint still looks as flawless as it rolled off the dealership lot.

Thanks, the dealer told me about a clear "bra" the can put up front, is this wht you mean? I have the number for a guy for this.

I am trying to behave, but sometimes, just a bit too much throttle and "boom" it pops up to 7K. I know this isn't recommended, and I'm not trying to do it on purpose, but this has slipped away from me twice (only had it since Monday).

I gotta get back on a care regimin (washing, waxing, etc.) that I didn't get into with my civic daily driver. I am not rich enough to afford to make the Z a "garage queen." So this will be my daily driver as well. However, this car is BEAUTIFUL (the gun metal on the 2015's black rims is a great combo).

Thanks for the care advise. So, if I get this bra thing (or is it a bra?), then I shouldn't wax over that, obviously.

Haven't waxed since I had a Focus SVT, so I gotta get away from: do brushless wash every 2 months and dealer detail once per year. To its credit, the Honda held up well, and I passed it on to my wife, but I've gotta treat this Z like my SVT (or even better). So, I've gotta learn the "detailing and care" trade all over again.

Fortunately, the forum here for this seems great.

Thanks! I've been reading here for months (just before and after placing the order). I really wanted a 300Z in my youth and I think I came back to the Z almost out of nostalgia.

The cabin is cozy, but the whole thing is wonderful. I'll keep it stock, but I am really interested in keeping it in good care in terms of washing, paint management, etc.

Clear bra as it's also called, or paint protection film or PPF, or film, is kind of the same vinyl/rubbery stuff you'd put on your cell phone screen to protect it from scratches. And it does the same thing.

It takes more labor and a ton more material too, so the cost is more as a result. The entire front bumper should cost between $300-$500 depending on where you go, if you want the entire hood that'll be $500-$900. I had my entire car protected except for the roof and trunk lid. The entire front, sides and back are protected, and it was by far the most expensive addition I've made, but also the most beneficial because I don't have to worry about paint scratches and especially swirl marks from washing, except on the roof and trunk lol (dammit).

If you ask around in your regional forum you can probably find someone to recommend a reputable place to install, and DEFINITELY DO NOT GO TO ANY DEALERSHIP NO MATTER WHAT! If there's an installer who does it at a dealership, his prices will be much higher than average because the dealer would want a kick-back. If the dealer does the work, they have a private installer come to them and the installer gets a big kick-back. Either way you pay more.

Go to a private shop that has clean floors and where you can talk to the owner AND installer if you so choose, so you can gauge what kind of person they are. Tell them what you want and they can get it done.

A rare quick trip to redline in a low gear, especially once there are 100 miles on the clock, isn't going to hurt anything. I wouldn't do it a lot, and I sure as hell would not do it in 5th gear, but letting it rev a little in 1st once or twice isn't going to hurt anything. After all, the guys that move the cars around the lot have already been bouncing it off the rev limiter for you.

Got an appointment this Thursday for the work - I'm not doing the whole car, just various parts of the front. Sounds like it is an often-recommended add-on, thanks for mentioning it.

you should have redlined 1st 2nd and 3rd gears in the first 20 miles to seat the rings properly. its too late now. luckily the factory did it for you and whoever pdi'd your car at the dealership probably too.

ive performed a hard break-in on a brand new honda s2000, vw gti, 2 evo x's all by warming up the engine out of the dealers lot and then proceeding to redline 1st gear, engine break back down to low rpm and repeat 3 times. same with 2nd gear, same with 3rd gear. went home, changed oil to full synthetic and have never burned a drop of oil on either vehicle and they all ran strong
