ive performed a hard break-in on a brand new honda s2000, vw gti, 2 evo x's all by warming up the engine out of the dealers lot and then proceeding to redline 1st gear, engine break back down to low rpm and repeat 3 times. same with 2nd gear, same with 3rd gear. went home, changed oil to full synthetic and have never burned a drop of oil on either vehicle and they all ran strong

Sorry, but this kind of old world logic is what causes oil consumption issues on these new tight tolerance engines.
Stay below 4k rpms for the prescribed 1200 miles per the manual during break in and the engine will be fine. You can even set the shift light to 4k to warn you if the rpms get too high.
