I was like WTFFFFF... This pretty much means Dani is the only force opposing Geoffrey now.. Didn't read the books, so plz don't spoil with stuff on what happens later.

Not entirely true. Plenty of players still left, including the Starks. If anything, the red wedding tells us that a huge army isn't required to shift power & control of an empire.

Yea each time I think about it again I'm back at holy sh** balls. Straight up stabbed that baby through her stomach. Rob was just like "oh golly gee, this is surprising to say the least". I was yelling in my head for him to do something instead of just stand there watching his girl get stabbed repeatedly.
oh yea! They killed the wolf.... bastards...

Strange as it sounds (and I've not watched season 3 yet), the show uses Robb much better than the book did. For instance, the s2 budding romance between Robb and his lady friend is pretty much absent from the book; you just accept it happened.
Just wait til next week |

Tywin Lannister: Clearly thinks Geoffrey's an idiot, clearly has the money, power, and skill to actually rule everything. Whether he does that by controlling someone else or taking over directly remains to be seen. Tyrells: Who knows. They're smart and they're the second-richest. Will the Lannisters put them in their place, or will they manage some unforeseen power play and flip the tables on them? They do have the active Queen (well, pretty close anyways) at this point, and the King's a tool. Varys + Littlefinger: Both still power players in King's Landing, both capable of ending Geoffrey and the Lannisters in general if they put their minds to it. Both probably want to do so. Tyrion: Even though his father doesn't like him much, he's the one that inherited his father's wits and then some. He's a complete wildcard at this point, but you could see him having a major impact in the future. Depends on the roll of the dice and how hard he tries. The Wildlings / Mance / Jon Snow: Too early tell how that all plays out right now. The Wildlings could potentially topple the North, especially with Robb gone. They could become a formidable force. Although it's hard to see them ruling King's Landing, anything's possible. Jon Snow's obviously a born leader, and we have yet to see whether he ends up leading The Watch after the death of Commander Mormont, or leading the Wildling force (sure it seems unlikely after the most recent episode, but still...) deposing Mance, or who knows what. The White Walkers: Not candidates to rule, per se, but don't forget that we have no idea what these are and how strong they are. If they're really planning to invade at least the North (past the wall) during the heavy winter, and the Wildlings and/or Watch don't stop them, the threat of them and the need to deal with them militarily could have a huge impact on everyone else's plans. Greyjoys: Unlikely to rule King's Landing, but still have a high probability of taking over the North (post-Robb) completely, which puts them on the map of formidable powers to be dealt with. Stannis / Melisandre: Her obvious powers make them another wildcard, even though they seem defeated to everyone else right now. Remember she did the King's Blood ritual with killing the leeches and naming three "usurpers" as she burned them. We've seen one of the three go down (Robb). Was that a coincidence? Will the other two she named fall swiftly as well? |

They really don't give the wolves enough screen time compared to the books. I feel like if I only saw the series, there's just some wolves around on the sidelines and well, whatever. Each of the major houses has an animal. The Baratheons had a Stag, the Lannisters are the Lions, and the Starks are the Wolves. There was a bunch of animal stuff going on in the books that you don't see here. To recap (some of which was in the series, but not highlighted very well):
Ned Stark's party finds 6 Direwolves in the snow. Their mother died to being gored by a Stag, I think. Ned has 6 children counting his bastard son: Robb, Bran, Rickon, Jon Snow, Sansa, Arya. They each get one wolf, and all the wolves are named (Robb - Grey Wind, Bran - Summer, Rickon - Shaggydog, Jon - Ghost, Sansa - Lady, Arya - Nymeria). Ghost is notable because he was an albino and the runt of the litter, and given to the bastard of Ned's litter. There's obviously some kind of nebulous psychic link between the Direwolves (which are some kind of magical creature from beyond the wall, not regular wolves) and their owners. Grey Wind dies in the Red Wedding we just saw, as did Robb. Summer and Shaggydog are still with Bran and Rickon. Ghost is still somewhere in Jon's part of the world, but they're currently separated. Sansa's Lady was killed by Ned after the incident where Arya's wolf bit Geoffrey's arm (much earlier in the story). The death of her dog while she lives on is a sort of sign that she's leaving the Direwolves' house (Starks), and she does basically turn on them to try to marry Geoffrey, which doesn't turn out so well. Arya chased off Nymeria to save her, but we don't know where she is now. Last edited by wstar; 06-03-2013 at 10:42 AM. |
