I second the Rothfuss comments; excellent books, but not yet finished.

I also mostly agree with the 3/5 for adwd, in fact, I'd even go lower. I dislike all the extra stuff he had to use as filler and the throwaway chapters. It also feels a bit like The Wheel of Time where it just spun and didn't go anywhere after a bit.

Sometimes it seems like GRRM has really painted himself into a corner and has to stretch things out to figure out how to wrap the story up cleanly. I'm not convinced he knows how it's all going to end yet.

According to interviews, he says he does. But I don't believe a word of it. I think he might have one or two specific things he wants to happen, but after that I do not think he has a clear picture. Book 4 and 5 is evidence of that. By the end of 5, I felt he started to get back on track, but there is a long way to go without compromising the integrity of the series IMHO.

But who knows, he may surprise us. It was a fun read regardless unlike the last few books of the Wheel of Time.

Of course, George Lucas always said he wrote out all 9 Star Wars movie stories. Yeah, right.

Indira Varma is a great start for the casting of the Martells, Ellaria and the Sand Snakes:

I loved her in Rome!

True, she seems like a good choice. I'm not sure if I feel the same about who was casted for the role of Oberyn.

Finished The Name of the Wind and A Wise Man's Fear; both outstanding if not frustrating. I just started to read The Way of Kings only to find out it is the first in a series of 10 :|

I think my next series might be The Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter just so I can get to the end of a series for once :)

I feel like A Dance with Dragons was necessary for the events of The Winds of Winter to make sense. Although it wasn't like the first three books as far as plotline, I enjoyed reading A Dance with Dragons because it has given me so much to speculate with my friends for the past two years while waiting for The Winds of Winter.

We are currently waiting the start of season four, which should be some time in march. You have plenty of time to get caught up on the show and start reading the books if you like.

I highly recommend reading the books, it fills in where the show cannot.
