[Official] Batman: The Dark Knight Rises Thread
Anne Hathaway (Get Smart, Devil Wears Prada) will play catwoman / Selina Kyle Tom Hardy (Inception, Rock n Rolla) will be playing Bane. For those who are not familiar with the character, he's known for being large, and the villain who broke batman's back. Kind of disappointed selecting bane as a character, but I'll have faith in Nolan. |

Very happy with the choice in Catwoman, but not 100% on bane. Was hoping more for Hugo Strange personally, but I know not everyone knows who that is.

Harley Quinn could have been interesting, they could have had her avenging the joker. While I think many people wanted Riddler, I understand why he didn't go that direction. The character is too similar to the joker for the average person, and all they would have done is compared the performance of whoever that unlucky actor was to Heath Ledger. |

Yep, plus the Riddler wants to get caught which is not really great for a big budget film in my eyes, I mean all his clues lead to him.
Harley would have been a good choice, but I feel with the death of Ledger they need to expand the horizon on what they can do. Also, to truly build Harley you need the Joker to make her fall in love.

I could see Poison Ivy or Penguin in Nolan's creation of the Batman world.
I think Catwoman is a fine choice since she will just be that annoying character that gets in Batman's way time and again, and Bane will be focusing on reuniting the underworld the Joker tore up.

The joker is batman's arch enemy, you can't just write him off because the last guy who tried to play him overdosed.
He wasn't very good anyway... Let the flaming begin, but I hated that joker. Although most of it was probably due mmore to what the actor was being told to do then the way he played the character but either way he was poorly represented. It may not have ruined the movie for me but it certainly detracted from it. The joker was always clean cut, he didn't look like a beat up hooker and he wasn't wearing makeup. That was what he looked like, if he wanted to blend in then his disguise was flesh tone makeup. Not the other way around. There was a few times when I thought he played the part perfectly, where you could see the crazy come out, but the rest of the time he sucked. Jack Nicholson was much better overall, in appearance and performance, but did peg the crazy part of the joker as well as ledger did sometimes.

don't like anne hathaway as catwoman. She's a great actress, but she's too goody-goody for the role. Michelle Pfieffer was perfect. She could seem good with that sinister under-current.
But we'll see. She's a great actress. |

I think Hathaway will be a good fit for the Catwoman role. Tom Hardy as Bane will be interesting... I'm not sure... but I agree with Frost.

Hathaway I think can pull it off because remember the character is actually both good & evil. While in the catsuit she is sexy, evil, etc. but when just on the street she portrays that innocent, clueless girl.

On the topic of Ledger's Joker, I think it was spot with what Nolan was creating. Remember that these films while using real stories as a basis are designed to create a 'realistic' Gotham city/world. The pasty white, bright color, jack nicholson character is not part of this world. What is though, is the scared, white make-up, psycho character we got. It showed a real Joker without all the comedy and jokes, and while it is part of what made the Joker great it work even better without in the Dark Knight.

Catwoman is more about stealing and being sexy, not directly evil I would say. I will say though, there better be a good scene where she seduces Batman in her costume.
