I think every season the writers brainstorm like mad and then worry about the corners (e.g., character inconsistencies, unnecessary or confusing plot developments,) they wind up painting themselves into later.

I think every season the writers brainstorm like mad and then worry about the corners (e.g., character inconsistencies, unnecessary or confusing plot developments,) they wind up painting themselves into later.
Maybe they have a "reset button" mentality, where so long as they wind up back on course with comic on the major plot points/characters alive vs. dead/etc. they figure it will all work out so long as the ratings hold. That's probably what they're doing. Meanwhile, Kirkman cashes royalty checks and storyboards unspeakable horrors that will never be part of the show. Sigh.
