My money is on it being airborne and they are all technically infected. Probably only affects one after death. And it wasn't just him, the prisoner was also that way.

What I found most interesting was "watching" the change. It looked almost like they all communicate with each other hive mind style?

Yeah in the first season the guy from the CDC said that the virus would mutate and become airborne that's why he didn't want to live

The guards had already died prior to infection, but the dead regardless of infection prior to death will soon be rising (adding a whole new level of undead)

Rick killing him with a knife makes it much more personal. Shanes blood is on his hands rather than being killed by a walker or gunshot.

Yea shane had it coming.

Although I think we are going to start to see a different side of Rick. He was just told how he is an awful father/husband, he killed his best friend, his son pointed a gun at him and saw him murder his friend, oh and there is a zombie appocalypse going on. Gotta think this is going to start to get to him.
