From what little time I've spent there, it seems plenty of the major freeways have some nice long sweepers here and there. They all seem well maintained, but I could go for a route that puts the Z's handling to good use.

One of the more popular roads is K-5 which runs from I-435 on the Kansas Side into Leavenworth/Lansing. Another is Mission Road in Leawood, south of 151st street. All around this area are some great roads. It's just a matter of finding a good map which shows county roads and just taking off and driving them.

Another great source is driving the SCCA Road Rallies. In the past few years they do this only in November. They run one course on Saturday and a different course on Sunday. The Rallymeister really finds some great roads, the kind of roads you want to go back and drive later.

Thanks!!!! Now I just gotta get home. My wife will be taking the Z in for tinting here soon. Going 35 I think all the way around. I'm sure she'll end up posting pics of it when its done (since I just found out she's on the board now too.)

JacksonZ33 06-25-2012 11:41 AM

there's plenty of places to drive around for fun. i'll have to start writing down some of my favorite spots.

i was hooked on late night drives through Mission Hills in the datsun (slowly i'll add). but it will be awhile before that happens again.

I think this warrants a new thread eh? If I were a mod, I'd probably sticky it, maybe we can convince one to do so. I bet before long, there will be others who would do the same.

edub370 06-25-2012 12:55 PM

I am starting the second half of my move to Kansas. I am leaving San Antonio Texas today and going to see if I can make it in one day 14hr drive. My wife will decide in OKC if she wants to stop for a night.

edub370 07-01-2012 04:23 PM

good luck sir! that is a heck of a drive to do all at once. we did it one time when we visited our family, but it was a heck of a drive. let us know how the move goes

Have a safe trip. I'm actually doing something very similar when I get back. Breaking in the Nismo by driving it from KC down to Houston, and then back a few days later. Can't wait actually.

Lemers 07-01-2012 07:09 PM

We just stopped outside witchata. About 2.5 more hrs once we get back on the road.

edub370 07-02-2012 08:20 AM

where exactly in kc will you be located?

Lemers 07-02-2012 09:05 AM

I am in Leavenworth for the next year

JacksonZ33 07-03-2012 09:46 AM

^ does this mean ur a military guy??

Lemers 07-03-2012 11:04 AM

Yes I'm army.

mcconned 07-03-2012 11:23 AM

Attending the college there? Regardless, it's a beautiful facility. I've gone to the homes tour there the last 2 years and the homes are gorgeous. I was in one which had been occupied by Custer.

Lemers 07-03-2012 05:13 PM

Yes I'm going to the school for a year. I'll look into the home tour. I'm sure the post will push it.

mcconned 07-04-2012 10:40 AM

Maybe your home will be on the tour! Unfortunately, this great event has little publicity. I found out about it by accident last year and you really have to dig to find info about it.

Typically, we caravan from KC up there, do the tour, then head across the river and hit O'Malley's in Weston. man, I LOVE their Dropkick beer.

Hmm tell me more about this homes tour. Sounds like a fun day trip from KC.

mcconned 07-05-2012 04:11 PM

This year it was May 5th. You pay at the museum (which has some really interesting stuff) and they provide you a map to the homes. You can drive, walk, or ride a shuttle. This year we opted to walk and hit about 8 homes. This year's homes were different than last.

Some of the homes are on a bluff overlooking the Missouri River. Very beautiful scenery.

If I recall, tickets were like $15 which went to a Ft. Leavenworth charity(?)

We think it's a great way to spend a Saturday.
