I couldn't find a '13 GT 500 for less than $10k ADM
|
I tried to post a copy of this but failed.
" Yesterday, Nissan announced a voluntary campaign on certain 2009-2010 GT-R and 370Z models to replace the Electronic Steering Column Lock (ECSL)." I believe some of you have had that issue. |
Willing to work a deal if anyone is interested......

My Z is stranded right now.
99% sure its the steering lock issue. yellow key light is on and i cant get it to turn over to acc or on at all. Any ideas on how I can get it unstuck and drive it to the dealer? Its under warrenty I just have to get it there. Tried the first few remedys in the DIY and no luck... |

Call a tow truck as there is no fix for it when it locks. The dealer will have to replace the lock with a new one |
Damn.... good luck man.

Hey all, anyone actually driving their Z around today who might be able to give me a temp comparision? I feel like I'm running hotter than I should be. I think today was 45* out and I am at 220 - 230 while highway cruising but easily climb to 230-240 if I get on it. I'm not redlining it or even floring it for extended periods. I am scared to death of what will happen when it's 100* outside for a month.....
I know I'm probably going to install an oil cooler before summer but wanted to compare temps in case I need to have the cooling system checked out. |
Mine is a brand new car and I was running between 220-230 when it was 40 outside. The oil cooler with help a ton with keeping the oil temp down. Just keep an eye on it. Now if your water temp starts to rise, with the current temps, you may have an issue.
|
I looked at mine yesterday and I was running from 200 to 220. It will get up there during the summer but generally you won't have a problem unless your racing. It still gets too hot though imo.

its covered by warranty, the issue is getting it to the dealership.
I beat on it with a hammer for a while last night with no luck. Right now its stuck in the bottom floor of a parking garage with a tiny roof clearance so it cant be towed out. Only way out is a back exit gate which is blocked by a massive pile of snow. Trying to get something out there to clear the snow right now. This sucks. |
Here is what I saw. I believe the poster is a Nissan Dealer in St. Louis.

update: The properties folks said they would have the snow cleared out by 2pm and I have a tow truck that should be showing up at 2.
Now just have to make a few small turns with the steering locked... |
Good news.
After the crazy circus of getting it out of the garage and on the tow truck... Got to the dealer and they agreed it was the steering lock, then had it replaced in about 20 mins. Randy Reed nissan up north at 152 and 29 has a pile of new locks in stock in case anyone else is looking to get their's fixed. |
If it weren't for the parking garage/snow problem, this would have been the most painless steering lock resolution to date.
|
Just a reminder for those who have a 2011 or older 370, get the harness, pull the fuse, or snip the wire. They do NOT have a version of this lock that won't eventually leave you stranded. Their answer to the issue was not to use the part anymore on 12 and newer models. Even if you have had yours replaced you still need to do the above.

The campaign states that they will only repair for 2009-2010 370z and 2009-2011 GTR's. I know that in the steering wheel lock thread that some ppl mentioned that very early 2011 would have issues as well.
Reference: NTB13-014 Date: March 7, 2013 VOLUNTARY SERVICE CAMPAIGN 2009 – 2011 STEERING LOCK UNIT CAMPAIGN ID #: APPLIED VEHICLES: 2009 – 2010 370Z (Z34) INTRODUCTION P3208 2009 – 2011 GTR (R35) Check Service COMM to confirm campaign eligibility. Nissan is conducting a Voluntary Service Campaign to replace the steering lock assembly on certain specific 2009 – 2010 model year 370Z and 2009 – 2011 model year GTR vehicles due to excessive oil within the assembly, which could cause the Body Control Module (BCM) to prevent the engine from starting when the ignition is cycled. This issue does not affect steering or engine operation when the vehicle is already running. IDENTIFICATION NUMBER Nissan has assigned identification number P3208 to this campaign. This number must appear on all communications and documentation of any nature dealing with this campaign. soo...in laymans terms. is this a issue they will now repair whether the steering lock is out or not?
sort of like a tsb or recall sort of action? |
Hey, as long as they have finally realized it's a problem that needs to be fixed. That's all that matters.
|
Ugh, just remembered that when I get home I have to pay to get my car licensed. There goes about $2200. I need to move to Texas so I don't have to pay personal property taxes every year on my vehicles. I'm guessing it's gonna go from $600 a year to $900+ for my 2 cars.
|
the new steering lock is crazy loud compared to the older one.
really hear it zip out when starting the car. Mostly likely going to pull the fuse soon just in case since the new models dont have one anyway. |
It is on early 2011 models also but Nissan isn't going to replace those even though they have the same version number which has also failed. The fix by Nissan was to remove it from 12 and 13 models.
They are not really fixing it which is my point. They are replacing it with a part which at some point in the future will fail again. You can say all parts will fail but this one is failing regularly before the warranty period is up, so how long will the replacement last???? |
so i guess i'll jsut live with my pulled fuse for a lil while (forever) longer
