I didn't really wanna bust your balls by telling you there was a local one after you went all the way out there to get yours. I'll PM the picture I have.

on the built engine note: internals alone would probably run $5k. rods, pistons, cams, valvesprings, retainers, etc... gtm quote me $6k just for the cam swap + head work on our car. i imagine with labor and everything, u would be looking at $12-15k depending on how wild u went.

Tower, what was your quote to get the engine built by gtm?

sounds good

And im not talking about cams and all that. im just talking about built engine to handle 600 hp or so. Here ill post a Quote On a GTR build and im just trying to wonderstand why the Z cost so damn much. Z owners are being charged 8k for a built engine.

is that a list of all the parts it would take to get a gtr to 600whp? So, thats about $24k in parts & labor for that gtr build listed above. as opposed to $30k for the z. that seems correct that the z would cost a little more considering we are taking a car from na to boosted.

i mean we need a few extra things not listed above such as trans/clutch upgrades, oil cooler, trans cooler, possible radiator upgrade ( thats $3500+ in parts off the top of my head right there. add labor for that install, and there's another $3k). plus if u have a 7AT, you gotta do major trans mods to handle that power too. you gotta think, the gtr gets the advantage of being built to handle 500hp worth of boost outta the box.

building an engine is a big undertaking. thats why there are so few "built" cars running around on the streets.

BUT, on a good tune, our engine can make 500-550whp on stock internals with just bolt on boost. the VQ37 is pretty stout for factory setup tbh. Hell, even 2jz's start having to worry about stock internals around that hp level

Mine was quoted at $34,903 to get my car to 700+whp, closer to 800whp. That was a whole new 4.2L engine, 3" exhaust, clutch set up, stage 5 fuel system, boost controller, traction controller and of course the twins. That's without install or shipping. I was soooooo close to doing this but after drooling over the GTR I had to come to my senses and realize I can get to 1000whp for the same money on the GTR.

yes 24K in parts in labor to bring a GTR to 750 rwhp. A GTR engine can handle 800 on stock iternals but i asked for a engine build price so that i can see what the cost would be compared to a Z. At this point in time boosted 350z's were all over the place. way over 600+

Wow Yea 35K with out labor too? you would need suspension mods and breaks o hold that power of 700+. i guess im venting and im upset that the Z cost so much!! the 370z that has 1,000 WRHP cost 100,000 to build.

Nah it would be closer to $45-$50K at the most. It maybe another $4k to get the 4.5L and brakes would be around $3-$4k at the most. I was also going to do all the labor. So it would of cost around $43k for me to get to 1000hp. That is also including a new rear end.:tiphat:

I got almost to Wild Buffalo when I realized I had forgotten them. I still have them and they are still in the same box:shakes head:... I should be in town this weekend. After that I will be out of town for another week.
