Awesome! Come on our to one of our meetings and the larger group may be able to help. There was one master tech in the area that everyone liked (had done everything from alignments to engine swaps) but I think he may have moved out of the area.

I have had good and bad experiences at most of the local Nissan dealers. Boyland is the only one so far to support the club. They sold and we lost contact with the management unfortunately.

You should say hi to Steve (thekinn) at Waterford! He drives the Lemans sunset Z in their time trials group. I have pretty much exclusively run with 3balls racing the last few years. I bought a wrecked 2005 for racing after getting sucked into HPDEs by the SEMPCA at Waterford. :) I had a wreck this June but I'm hoping I can get the car back 100% this weekend or next.

Hey so i am new to the detroit area. I live in oakland county and was wondering if this group still meets up? Would really like to check it out. Just got a new z like 3 months ago and just joined these forum

Absolutely! We've been keeping a fairly regular schedule too. 7:00 on the last Monday of the month at Buddy's Pizza in Novi.

Sorry about not keeping the thread updated. I try my best to keep the calendar on the website up to date but sometimes I just fail. :P Usually we will send an email if we cancel or move the meeting or event too. You can sign up for that on the web page (Great Lakes Z Club | News and events for the Great Lakes Z car club)

Where are you folks getting service in the Detroit area?

Is one dealer noticeably better than the others?

sig11 06-22-2015 07:26 AM

If I don't do it myself I go to Kenny's Lakes Area Auto Experts in Walled Lake. Last time I needed a dealer I went to **** Scott. I like their service folks but sales didn't treat me very well when I was looking for my 370Z.

The tech that seems to have the best reputation in the club is at LaFontaine now. He's done a couple engines and other fun stuff.

Cool. Thanks for the info.

What about getting mods done? Like, say, having a LSD installed? Where do folks go for that? Pure Tuning down in Toledo?

sig11 07-14-2015 07:13 AM

Kenny did the NISMO diff for my race car. Well... they did the difficult part swapping the old LSD out and the new into the pumpkin. They did my 370Z shocks and rear camber arms the first time too because I was too busy.

They don't do tuning... for that I would go to Z1 or Forged in Atlanta or Dynosty in Louisville, KY.

Had my Z tuned by Aaron at Pure. While not a shop that specializes in Z's, I feel they got me a good solid tune that at worst is only be marginally less than if I had taken the car to a shop that specializes in Z cars.

That is good to know. I would love to get my 370 tuned... the more I drive the 350Z the more I hate the throttle in the 370.

Nice to see some other Detroiters with Z cars, we're definitely in the minority around here, but that's one of the many things I love about the Z. Turns a lot of heads because it's good looking and very rare around here!

I'll try to meet up with you guys at Buddy's on of these months.

I just got my car this spring and am coming up on my 15,000 mile service. I was thinking LaFontaine or Dic.k Scott. Anybody have a recommendation for best service around Detroit dealers? Thanks!

I don't know the tech's name at Lafontaine that Lee is referring to, but my brother had a 2012 GT-R and was referred to a tech at D**K Scott who seemed very knowledgeable.. looks like it's now Nissan of Canton? If I can get his name I'll post it ;)
