I went twice last year to the last HPDE days. One with the Z Car club of OK for Midwest Z Fest (dismal turnout with 9 cars) and another for a groupon (lots of cars and other makes as well). Very well organized and super friendly. It's hard on brakes though, so make sure you're 100% on pads/rotors and you need race brake fluid. Most of the stock brake fluid guys boiled. You may have all this already.
You want to check the Highs Speed Touring Series. There's a driver education class to attend and a membership fee. After that, I think it's $100 per event and they are the last weekend of each month. Email connie@hallettracing.net Here is the latest email she sent out: Hi, COMMA/ HST drivers, We thank you for your valued participation in COMMA and HST at Hallett for the 2011 season. We are in the process of preparing for the upcoming COMMA Challenge / HST events. The Hallett crew is at work putting up a LOT of new tire barriers - making the track an even safer place for our drivers. We have the tentative schedule for our 8 rounds already posted on the website: March 31/April 1 (no fooling!), April 28-29, May 26-27, June 30/ July 1, July 28-29, August 25-26, Sept 29-30,Oct 27-28 (some extra T&Ts and HST only events will be added when we get the entire calendar together.) Hallett Motor Racing Circuit |
Thanks for the info. Got hawks brake pads because Ive only been to a small course were boiling wasn't a problem. When u say member ship fee, is that monthly or yearly on top of the $100 each event? Do they have time attack events or is it more then one car on the track per heat?
|
I believe it's an annual COMMA membership and maybe a fee for first time drivers, but it's well worth it. They have a class and instructors for every person. They'll ride with you and help, or even drive your car. This really helped me because it allowed me to see how to drive my car and trust it. That's one thing is trying to find the limit.
They space your start, but you're all out there and there's definitely some "racing" going on. There is no corner passing, but there are 3 straights. Most people are good at pointing to pass, but it's not required. When I went there were 3 classes Driver Education, Intermediate, and Advanced. The advanced guys were full on racers or track built cars: 240Z, mustangs, vettes, porches, and that day a Lambo LP 760. In the DE we had a huge mix of cars: 350Z's, GTR, Vettes, Hondas, EVO, Mustang GT500. I was the fastest all day in the DE besides the GTR. At first we were within 2 seconds, but in the end he had my by about 5. He was boosted 200 Hp over stock and I just couldn't match the grip and Hp that car has, but I out drove him. Give me slicks, brakes, and an ECU and I'd have him. You're first time there you definitely want new racing fluid and take extra. Take some old or extra pads as well. If you're not on Brembo's, just don't out drive your car. I used Stoptech HP Street pads and Powerslot blank rotors with ATE super blue. I was at the limit of my stock setup and the Z32 is a little heavy. Both 350's boiled there fluid and went off track. They have speed shop, but the prices are inflated of course. Youtube Hallett and you'll see all types of stuff. I'll try and put some pics up. |
Thanks man big help and I new there was a reason I kept my stock brake pads haha

Here's a few photos from the event. The EVO was annoying. Just kept drag racing us out of the corners. He had me on straight line speed and must have been boosted way up. Kept almost running in to him in the corners. Finally got around him. GTR guy kept asking how my car was so fast, and just kept telling him it's stock with an intake and exhaust.
It's addicting. Let me know if you end up going. Here's one of the start grids for DE http://www.the370z.com/attachment.ph...6&d=1326048423 Passing a Vette, look how big Godzilla is http://www.the370z.com/attachment.ph...7&d=1326048869 http://www.the370z.com/attachment.ph...8&d=1326049043 http://www.the370z.com/attachment.ph...9&d=1326049052 |
Haha godzilla was tryin to eat u, I'm stuck right. Now wit tax season coming in trying to see if it's time to upgrade my car a bit or if it's time to upgrade to the 370 /: doesn't help that everyone is tryin to tell me to move to a 370. Love the design better but I won't b living to comfortably. And the 350z will take a lot of work to get to where I want it. On the other hand am also about to deploy the end of this year so if I hold out I can come back and buy a brand new 370 probably. Too many things to think about
|
Depends on what you want to do. The way I see it, if you want to do the tracking stuff, your 350 is good. Upgrade the brakes (if not Brembo), get an extra set of tires/wheels (light weight), and learn how to drive. Racing is EXPENSIVE! Go fast mods are not really necessary there at Hallett. Sell it before you deploy and when you come back reward yourself with a 370. You'll have driving experience and extra cash.
I'd love a 370Z, but I couldn't afford the payment and the track expenses. That's why I stuck with the 300TT. It occurred to me, here's two guys on a 370Z board that don't even have the car...at least Z's though! |
Haha but with the same dream. Way I see it, makes sense but if ima upgrade to a 370 then I'm not gonna put money into this car except to pay it a bit and already have wheels in mind that'll fit the 370 anyways. I want forgestars f14. Honestly already got nitto invo so only thing I missing is rims to wrap em around. And then I'll throw the rest of the money on the car payment and b set for when I want to sell it
|
lol padilla is mad cause my z has side binkers ;)
|
Haha **** u Alex. I think best course of action is decided. Use my z till we deploy and come back with gwap to buy a 2013 base sport or if it all possible (doubt it) nismo

Is Hallet closed during the winter? I am looking at trying to get out there for the first time in March to see how the 370 does stock. I used my 350 for autoX (not a lot, only had the car a year) and am itching to see how the 370 does. I only sold the 350 because it was an auto and had to get back to a standard. For some reason, finding a somewhat low mileage standard Z was not an easy task out here so I settled with the auto 350. One of my friends does a lot of vintage racing and he loves Hallet.
