I think my master slave cylinder or maybe CSC just went
Yesterday I noticed some odd behavior with my clutch "sticking" (but not grinding). I swapped out my floormats yesterday so I figured the clutch might have been catching but when I looked at it, it didn't seem likely. I wrote it off as a fluke.
I got up this morning and got in the car and the clutch pedal simply does not work. The pedal flips down to the floor and I have to flip it back up with my toe. It's like it's not connected to anything. Thinking CSC/Master cylinder? Cody - need your input here. |
Have you checked your clutch fluid?
|
The car is just over 1 year old and was in for service 2 months ago. No chance that's the problem.

Same issue as this guy except I'm not going to try and be a daredevil and drive to the dealership. |
That was happened to my Honda 2 weeks ago, low clutch fluid, pedal had no pressure and down to the flood when using it, could not even put in gear, if you can't put in gear, should be clutch fluid, it just a regular DOT3 brake fluid if you want to fill it up. Good luck, if I don't have some personal issue today, I'll swing by you and take a look

It's parked at my girlfriend's and I'm in a workshop all day at work. Earliest I can be out of work is 5pm. I have the tow to the dealership scheduled for between 5-6:30
|
Yup, have the dealership work on it.. hopefully they wont charge you an arm and a leg.
|
Still under warranty :)
|
Hmm seems way too early to be dealing with CSC failures already Mark. Glad the dealership will get it taken care of.
|
I'd hope so.. I dont like the fact that the dealer can "black list" your car as "moddified"
I got that impression at the college park dealership when I had that serious issue with my o2 sensor. |

Man, I just dont trust em.. they're in the business to make money. Just like as a consumer, we're in the business to save money.. good luck.
|
They've been good to me so far. We'll see I guess.
|
Keep us posted, im sure you will.
|
Sounds like fluid or csc. Has the dealership said anything yet? If they want to charge you it would be a good time to just go and buy a heavy duty csc.
|
Car won't get to the dealership until tomorrow. Can you recommend a good sturdy CSC just in case so I can get this moving quickly if need be?
Edit: Also, I have no idea how I would be out of clutch fluid with just a shade over 7k miles on the car. |

Specialty Z here on the forum has them. They make the clutch and flywheel kit I want too. Also if a line would've broke or leaked it could cause low fluid but that isn't likely. |
Yeah that's the thing. I would have noticed a fluid leak under the car.
|
When I suffered the clutch not coming back up from the floor when depressed it was due to boiling the OEM clutch fluid on the track with temps on the track that day at 104F.
After letting it cool down for several hours I was able to get it back working as normal. After that I upgraded to Motul RBF-600 in the brake lines and for clutch fluid. No problems since. I do hope it isn't a CSC failure, but at least if under warranty it would be covered. |
I have never tracked the car. Occasional "spirited" driving but that's it.
|
Track or not Jon, would you say upgrading your brake fluid to the Motul stuff is a good idea?

Question. Ran home at lunch to check clutch fluid (haven't done it on a Z before) and there's no dipstick. The fluid reservoir is very small. Should there be standing fluid in it?

Reservoir itself is empty. Can I just run out to autozone and buy motul fluid and dump it in?
Really weird that this happened. I had my other z two years and this never came up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

So uh. This isn't something I can do in my girlfriend's driveway I take it. Seeing as I do not have transparent vinyl hoses etc.
For my car can I just go ask for Motul at autozone? Looking like a SS clutch line is in my future for sure. I'm assuming I don't need "clutch fluid" since it's a MT, right? Just motul brake fluid...? *reminder: I'm still kinda new at this sportscar thing. Before my 2009 Z, my last car was a Sentra (lol) |
dude, if you dont know how to fix this, why mess with it? take it to the dealer and let them fix it.
|
Its kinda like, know when to say when. I mean, its only a 40k car. Me personally, i wouldnt mess with it or try to fix it especially if I had no clue whats involved to have it fixed.

http://www.the370z.com/diy-section-d...placement.html There are various one-man brake bleed kits you can use for either brakes or clutch. The Motul RBF-600 works for brakes and clutch fluid. You can have it done at the dealership of course, but you'll pay for labor. I don't have tools or space so I wind up paying for it but if you bring the fluid yourself you could save some. If doing brakes and clutch, bring three bottles. Its about $17-$19 for one bottle. Whatever you might have left over can be retained. |
Im almost positive DM wants this fixed like right now.
|
Yeah, I modified my post to reflect that he'll likely be having someone else doing it nearby unless he has time, tools, extra body to help.
|
I wouldnt mess with it, heaven forbid if you messed something up, it'd be a slippery slope. Thats just me, I know when to say when. lol.
|
Yeah I'll just pay them to do it unless I can get someone to help (that isn't my girlfriend)

Wish I had bought SS brake and clutch lines before this happened :/

Its just one of those times if your car is running perfectly fine, and you've done a ton of research on how to replace your brake/clutch fluid and you're comfortable with actually going through with it. Then I'd say do it yourself, but your car isnt running, and you just need to get it fixed as fast as possible, so the smart thing is take it to a mechanic so you can get it running again.
|
I still want to know how this happened... Do you normally have to replace clutch fluid after 1 year? That seems really odd to me.

Almost kinda makes me want to take it to the dealership anyway
