Holiday projects?

Ok so my shopping is done. Girlfriend doesn't get time off but my last day of work is Thurs and I'm off until the 7th. I'm going to go insane by day 4.

Plans so far:
-Order another 25 sq feet of GTmat stuff and install.
-Clay bar/3 stage wax/polish.
-Fluid check
-Oil change
-Buy halo 4 and resident evil 6. Dust off Xbox
-drink heavily
-shop for a new watch. That new movado bold titanium orange thing looks slick.
-???

shadoquad 12-16-2012 01:53 PM

Sounds like a good project list.

I'm probably gonna be throwing mud flaps on my WRX shortly after the holidays.

chieuxuan 12-16-2012 03:00 PM

Nice, I wish I can take off a week :shakes head:
Shado, please don't throw those mud flaps away, I'll see if they can fit on my 4x4 as I go "off-road" a lot.:tiphat:

I'm putting some ON the vehicle

GaleForce 12-16-2012 03:30 PM

Installing a turbo on the Z, and doing drywall work in my man cave.

Eat.
Drink.
Eat.
Drink.
Drink.
Install illuminated kickplates. (May change LED color if I'm feeling ambitious)
See what the wifey ordered from the Z store!

XwChriswX 12-16-2012 07:00 PM

  • Oil Change
  • Make Oil Cooler Block Off Plate
  • Drive to Atlanta/Back
  • Install Winter Wheels/Tires

dmhenderson 12-16-2012 08:09 PM

Kick plates will take you 20 minutes if that. Use an un-twisted coathanger and some electric tape to fish the harness behind the console.

I want these, but I feel like they're something I would prefer to have dealer installed...

If you Don't have them, is the harness to plug them in already prewired and plugged, just hidden, or will I have to cut/splice/tap connections in myself?

dmhenderson 12-16-2012 09:41 PM

They are completely pre-wired and takes 10-20 minutes to install. My dog could install them

No cutting or splicing required. They're beyond easy.

I want to change the LEDs to red on mine but I hear that's actually kinda hard

Where is the plug located in the car? :pics:

I'd want to do this as well to match my theme, but I am not proficient at LED wiring, and the only person I knew on here who did it, doesn't anymore. :(

Mike 12-17-2012 08:09 AM

swap out one of XwChriswX' brake calipers

Iirc, the plug was under the plastic kick plate on the passenger's side on my '09.

It requires no splicing or wiring knowledge. I am REALLY bad at this stuff and I did it with no help in just a few minutes. The plastic kick plates pop off, you plug in the harness, fish the wire through to the driver's side, plug everything in and pop on the aluminum kick plates.

theDreamer 12-17-2012 08:33 AM

Chris, kickplates are easy, no wiring needed. It is all prewired so you just run the wires around the car and plug it in. Longest part is getting the old kickplates off really.

My holiday plans:
-Rotors
-Pads
-Lines
-Fluid
-Rear spacers
-Drinking & skiing.

So both the passenger side, and driver's side, plug in together on the passenger side?? That seems odd... and a really annoying way of cable management to get the drivers side ran..?

I just wish there was still someone doing the LED swap to red. Otherwise I'd of already had a set installed.. :(

b1adesofcha0s 12-17-2012 09:03 AM

Well I only have off for Christmas and New Year's, but no real mod plans for the holidays. Already installed my sway bars 2 weeks ago. Need to swap out the melted headlight lens once it gets warm again outside. Also gonna pick up some Pilot Super Sports for the spring.

I acually need to do another set because my girlfriend dinged the hell out of the passenger's side with her heels. They actually dent surprisingly easily :/

Anyway, yeah if I remember right, both plugs were on the passenger side but I could be wrong. It has been a couple years since I've done it.

Fishing the cable isn't too hard - like I said, use a coat hanger and a little bit of electric tape and fish it behind the steeing column.

Yep, the harness plug is on the passenger side.

Yeah those would look sharp. My interior LEDs are all already red and the entire car is red/black.

xxAGAVExx 12-17-2012 09:22 AM

Painting my brake calipers black, and hopefully putting on black Evo-r z logos if Santa brings them for Christmas.

MyKindaGuise 12-17-2012 01:39 PM

-Pull Headers and Exhaust(for sale hit me up)
-Buy rest of turbo parts
-build downpipe for MK5 GTI
-370z Dash mod for radar detector and Nexus7 tablet mount
-Find a crap beater so my 370 can be out of commision for a few months for build time.

Now that sounds like a plan!

dmhenderson 12-17-2012 02:03 PM

PM'ed - I may want your headers depending on what you had although for some reason I think you may have had LTHs or test pipes in which case oh well.

b1adesofcha0s 12-17-2012 02:04 PM

Yeah he had the FI LTH.

dmhenderson 12-17-2012 02:16 PM

I can't run those in MD. If I ever get around to it, I'll do stillen ceramic heat-wrapped headers but that's as far as I'm willing to go with this car.

MyKindaGuise 12-17-2012 02:22 PM

Haha emissions are lameeeee. For anyone else curios these dont throw error codes so its just a matter of finding a shop that doesnt do sniffer tests.

Sorry for the double post but here is a pic of the Holset Hc1 turbo. Next to it is a turbo from my buddies Miata. For those that don't know mine is the one taped up.

dmhenderson 12-17-2012 02:35 PM

MD emissions are all done by the county - it's not a "State inspection" thing you can get done at a shop.

Zippy chance LTHs would fly around here.

PA is county specific for emessions. Its seperate from inspection. If they dont do sniffer tests then youll pass. These throw no codes and all emissions lights give the green light for pass. idk.

Yeah, from what I've heard the AL is suuuuper thin. Just to be there to be there.

Ah. Do you route it through the interior, or under the carpet?

Guess we'll never be able to attend meets together, I'm doing practically the same thing, just at a slower pace. :icon17:

I want to get my interior LED's to red, but again, no one to do it. :(

b1adesofcha0s 12-17-2012 02:50 PM

I don't think I need the endlinks for now. Haven't really seen much about endlinks failing. Might be something I could do further down the road though.

dmhenderson 12-17-2012 02:51 PM

Let me dig. I swapped all of my interior lighting (trunk and dome lights) for red LED pods and they look great with the nismo interior.

Vendor on these forums sold me the pods.

I just had mine done at the same time since they already had them there and had the car on the lift. Might as well..

Oh I have the LED's, I thought you meant like the gauges and such, from that shitty orange to Red. I have the LED dome lights, and a brighter white in the trunk.

dmhenderson 12-17-2012 02:54 PM

Yeah all of my gauges still glow orange. I didn't change that stuff.

dmhenderson 12-17-2012 02:55 PM

I actually have a red LED for the license plate but I don't drive around with it because I don't want to be pulled over.

That's the stuff I'd like to change... Orange to Red. I think it would look sick. Red numbers with white needles, or white hashes and red needle.

Agreed, just left that white. What I really need to get swapped is the turn signal orange bulbs to white. :shakes head:
