Sometimes you can't just decide to not drive your car. If you're at work and it suddenly starts snowing you gotta get home. In the first "epic blizzard" this happened to me and I had to get home. There is no way I was staying at work. I basically drove sideways from columbia to catonsville on 29 and 70 on the summer tires. Not fun and scary as hell. I ended up getting a set of michelin x-ice tires. Still haven't driven them in the snow/ice but they are a lot more grippy than the summer tire will be at 50 degress and below. The summer tires in the cold winter feel like riding around on 4 giant hockey pucks. Its dangerous and I don't recommend it. If you can't afford two sets of wheels and its your dd I would go with all seasons.
Also throw in there the snow tires are half as loud as the stock tires were. Last edited by 4r3s; 10-16-2012 at 01:57 PM. |

With more drag in the rear than the front the rear rarely steps out unless turning, but yes, this is a 30 mph or slower evasive maneuver not something I would recommend at higher speed.

Hey guys, I really appreciate the input!
It sounds like the idea in this area is "just get something" not necessarily that one thing is better than another. To be honest this was the feeling I had before creating the thread but it's good to see other opinions who live in my area. Again, appreciate it! I am probably going to grab a set of LM-60s on some decent wheels for the winter as EazyD did in this thread. I do really like the sport package wheels and the grip of the Potenzas. We'll see what happens. Hopefully I can do this soon... two weddings this year and an expensive Christmas. Not to mention I bought the Z... lol I should be able to make it happen soon though.

Perfect pavement and perfect condition, yes. Snow and ice while you are losing control, pulling e-brake should be used as the last resort, not the first move.
