FI CBE Rust issues?!?

So one of the more alarming things I heard while Khoi and his friend were at our event on Saturday was that the FI exhaust has rust problems.

Is that true? Has anyone had their FI exhaust rust out because for $2k I'm thinking that probably should not happen.

Is there any way to treat the piece before installing it to prevent rust?

First ive heard of them having rust issues...

I've never heard of anything like this before either. I dont have FI exhaust though so I havent been looking for it.

Man, to be honest, every exhaust i've seen rusts in certain spots of the exhaust...

dmhenderson 09-17-2012 02:11 PM

Khoi's friend was the one who brought it up and I went into panic mode.

Its not the bad rust where its completely broken down, from what I've seen, its surface rust.. which can be removed using a wire brush.

DM,

I was the one who mentioned it not Dan. And I only mentioned it because of a used system a buddy was selling, which the original owner was from Northern NJ. (I'm sure the roads are super salty up there)

FI posted in your other threads claiming their flanges are mild steel. I had mention the flanges on this used system was rusted, nothing about the welds

I'll try to get pictures of this used set up I saw

I just didn't want to post in the other thread as mods don't like vendors going at other vendors. This was simply just an observation

I'm trying to push our company to be more like FI as far as having so many options in exhaust components :p

No no - I appreciate the feedback to be honest. Not trying to start drama but that exhaust isn't/wasn't cheap

you sound like you're describing my AAM exhaust system...

and no I'm not trolling for a change today.

Literally cannot wait to get that FI system on my car + tune.

Bought mine used from a guy on here and it looked like it came right out of the box. Was under the car last Sunday just doing a once over and everything still looks new.

+1

I'm very happy with my AAM exhaust. I wrapped my whole exhaust from test pipes back. After a year and change of the elements....it looked great except the test pipes I'm guessing being closer to the engine. The flanges did have light rust on them, lighty enough the wrench used to remove them was also used to tap it off.

Currently waiting on PPE LTH...will be lightly painting the flanges of my AAM with HI temp paint to help.
