Yup, that's what I was thinking. This would be something I'd definitely be interested in. It can't cost a more than the current CAI offerings like the Gen 3's though.

Yeah anything more than that is overpriced anyways for potentially very minimal gains if any.

After reading up on velocity stacks a little bit (ok I just read the wiki page ) this looks to be promising

^^^ Yep -- the primary goal here is improved flow without sacrificing air temps, with the secondary goals of ease of installation and cleaning.

As to price -- I made a point of mentioning to Swift that it needs to come in around or cheaper than the G3's to be competitive, so we'll see what they can do.

But, yeah -- that thing is a work of art! If they make the plexiglass cover for us, we can admire the lovely work while it's installed.

The real question is whether a cone element can be mated to it or if they can just make a screen for a panel filter. Either should be fine -- guess we just have to see what they come up with.

I'm in for updates.

I always thought the velocity stacks on s2k's were awesome.

remember reading that preludes and s2000s were seeing huge improvements in pedal response.

^^^ Great!

A few more important details:

Before anything gets fabbed -

Diameter of the intake tube must match OEM otherwise tuning will absolutely be required; same for location and orientation of the MAF sensors. They're CNC'ing everything, so that shouldn't be hard to do (and they probably already know this... but never hurts to make sure).

After the prototype is made --

You will probably need to do 3 pulls for each run to see changes -- the ECU doesn't adjust immediately (true, even with tuning). There are other transient modifiers that take a few runs to "self-adjust".

Also, be sure to keep oil temps right around 200* F, not too much cooler or hotter, and do all runs in same gear (either 4th or 5th is fine).

I'm hoping you guys can find a dynojet, but really any dyno will do so long as baseline and Swift intake runs are done under same conditions.

If you can do it on a dynojet, please send me the drf's (actual datafiles) to jlitman@mail.usf.edu when you do the runs. I'll make detailed comparison graphs and post them.

Also, if you can get pics as the build of the prototype comes together that would be awesome! I can post those too if you like

So you've found an excuse to now uninstall the mods that you actually managed to install on your car? Trollolololing

Just spoke with Swift -- looks like they are on board with the way I am envisioning the intake design. Project is very much underway

I've stressed the importance of testing and comparing the new intake to competitors to validate its merits, so this should lead to some rigorous R&D to get the best possible design for us

Eastwest -- great job! Looking forward to more details as things come together

Interesting, subd

Things I would be looking for:

air flow
gains
heat soak
sound
throttle response
ease of filter maintenance
hydro lock
cost

Is it plug n play ? or tune required?
