To drop or not to drop

1 Attachment(s)
I'm debating dropping the car on some swift springs. My current dilemma here is how low my exhaust hangs already. I've got about 3" clearance right now. Would you all lower the car or leave it as is considering this is my daily driver? I feel like I'm asking for trouble if I lower it.

I would stay away from it. I have the gemini, and during normal driving I dont scrape, but coming out of my driveway, unless I come in at a weird awkward angle, my exhaust scrapes.

I personally think your money would be better spent on some stillen sway bars, I notcied a LOT more difference in handling compared to the springs.

I've been dropped on Swifts and have the F.I. CBE and have never scraped at all even on speed bumps. Your AAM exhaust seems to hang really low though as I still have about 3 inches of clearance from the lowest point of the F.I.

In your case I would hesitate dropping unless you plan to replace your exhaust.

I wouldn't want to drop with that clearance.

Drop it like it is hot

Good to know as that is the combo I plan to have

Then rip your exhaust off the car.

Red__Zed 03-05-2012 02:05 PM

I dropped my car an inch beyond the swift drop and never scraped anything (exhaust-wise)....

But of course, I had a different exhaust.

Well thar ye go.

Coworker had a decent idea, attach an aluminum can to simulate the lowest point and drive around for a week or two and should be able to gauge the results from that. Will look silly with the can for a bit but it should give me a decent idea of scraping or not. Also thought about going back to AAM to see if they can raise the exhaust up a bit.

hahaha... ahh man, thats messed up. :bowrofl::bowrofl: Im waiting on Kirks Garage to open up.. My springs are still sitting in the box.

Masa 03-05-2012 03:21 PM

I think the Ark has pretty low clearance as well... I remember Eastwest complaining about scraping on stock height on his way to one of the meets. :)

Dude, usually theres no problems scraping, its the damn roads more than anything else, Im just really cautious with the potholes and the unevenness of the roads.

Thats the first thought that came to my mind, to call AAM and ask them if they can raise it any. That might be a potential solution.

PapoZalsa 03-05-2012 08:12 PM

I did a suttle drop with the TEIN'S a got from Masa and I have the F.I. CBE that hangs low. Just have to be careful.

eastwest2300 03-05-2012 10:47 PM

Careful is definitely the key word..

Cristobal09 03-06-2012 07:34 AM

I look at it this way, is it really worth it to slow down to 5-10 mph over a train track or speed bump? Make extreme angles to get into driveways or inclines, and always be constantly worrying about a pothole or deviance in the road? Fortunately I have the Gemini which has 3 more inches of clearance so I dont have to worry about it as much. But with that exhaust, id spend your money on something else.

Masa 03-06-2012 08:16 AM

I've honestly never had any issues yet. The stupid front black splitter scrapes on anything but my F.I. has yet to touch the ground lol.

b1adesofcha0s 03-06-2012 09:10 AM

I guess it depends on how the roads are on your daily commute and how your driveway is. My car is even lower than just the swift drop because I got lower profile tires and I only have scraping issues with driveways and it's always the bottom of my front bumper (and now my front lip) that gets scraped. My exhaust does have more clearance than yours though. I'm definitely going to get some taller tires next time so I can get some more ground clearance.

man, just drive it dude, if it scrapes, it scrapes, its a done deal..you cant take it back.. haha. Just keep on rolling.. and let it ride.

4r3s 03-07-2012 08:28 AM

I think I'm going to wait on this one. I ordered the 40th anniversary Z's BBK for my car the other day so I'm going to install those and see how I feel about the wheel gap at that point with my advans. 3" clearance and going lower is asking for trouble I think.

I just have fears of the exhaust can catching a pot hole or some debris and me driving off without any exhaust anymore. that would be a mess I don't want to deal with.

eastwest2300 03-07-2012 08:34 AM

I hear ya on that bro..good luck man. keep us posted.

The more times we mention Maryland's road conditions the more we give Owe Malley another reason to put his hand in our pockets.

shhhhhh. wink wink. the roads are fine (nevermind I don't take my bike out on them because the suspension can't keep the tires on the roads).
