Maryland Emissions Testing
...trying to figure out when I would have to worry about getting tested with a 2010 car. I read on the web site that only would be tested if transferred ownership, but I could be reading it wrong.
Thoughts ? Input ? Expertise ?

It's really no big hassle. The VEIP places are drive through. They usually just hook a sensor up to the OBD-II. For older vehicles, they may use the sniffer. But you can relax until you hear from the MVA. And it's only like 20-30 bucks to get tested. |

I think Jon (ZCar) or Masa can explain this emission testing in MD.

In VA it's every 2 years. I think it's about the same in MD or maybe even every 2-3 years?

pulling this from another forum... "4 years off new dealers lot, 2 years thereafter, IIRC." Last edited by shadoquad; 02-28-2012 at 09:30 AM. |

...well when it comes, it comes. I am basically just wondering if I will have to put my stock cats back oin to pass...or if Berk HFCs will pass.
I suppose I could "palm" a $50 bill to the guy hooking it up, and see what happens.

Look, if you're not throwing a CEL code, then the OBD-II will probably not pick it up. If it does pick it up, you will be given something that says you have to have it removed and re-tested by some date, which will give you at least 2 weeks or a month, and even then you can request an extension. It is at that point when you might consider palming a 50. But it may pass emissions without all that, as long as the car isn't throwing a code. Also, you can get aftermarket code readers and scan it yourself before driving up. |

What Al said. They didn't even have the 370Z in their computer when they did mine. As long as no CEL has been thrown and detected by the OBDII sensor they plug in under the column, you are good to go.
