Pirelli makes the only F1 tire, not the best. They are the exclusive supplier, much like Goodyear is for NASCAR.

forgive me for giving a difference in opnion, wouldnt want anyone on here to run something different than everyone else.. maybe im just different but i like to use what i like and not what people tell me i should use...

and again i didnt say pss were junk.. i said they r good, i just offered my opnion on a tire that i like and have great luck with.. i never said anythign bad about the pss.. and maybe in ur opnion pirelli is bad or not worth it.. and thats fine.. but that is your opnion.. i on the other hand love pirelli and whenever i need new tires that is the brand i go with..
I never said they are not good. I said the Pilot Super Sport is vastly better than the PZero. Keep in mind the PSS is a brand new compound while the PZero is an aging tire that's soon to be replaced.

My experience (I have lots of experience) and available empirical data supports my claim that PSS > PZero. If anything because you can expect nearly double the longevity while maintaining better dry/wet performance.

Is Pirelli bad? Is the PZero bad? No. I never said that. I just said that they aren't the best (right now). The PZero was a great tire when I used it. It's just that the Super Sport is just that much better.

i agree with what you said.. especially that its a older tire.. and the reason for that is they didnt have a need to update it until now.. i dont agree with the vastly better.. the difference is marginal. and the average z driver would be hard pressed to tell the difference...

also i never said that the pirelli was better, i just said they are what i like and what i use on my car.. im on car #33 so i have tried and had experiance with many many different brands of tires.. i couldnt tell u the different compounds or the specific makeup of the tire. but i can tell you what ones handel well in the rain/snow/dry etc.. and what one wore fast..

tread wear is the worst part of a pirelli.. i have owned many sets of pzero, and they are expensive.. the main reason for their fast treadwear is the super sof make of the tire.. its a compromise with the makeup that they used in that tire.. they gave up tread life for grip/handeling..

you are mostly right.. they did use a different brand and then switched back to pirelli because the other brand did not have the traction needed. and they didnt hold up.. something about them falling apart.. not a 100% on the specifics i would have to search it..

edit:as for the comment not the best.. yes they are the best for f1 tires or else they would not be useing them..

I could have sworn Michelin made F1 tires as well but I guess I could be wrong.

here is a link to the tirerack comparison.. yes the pss rated higher, as did all others. but its not a vast difference.. they are all very close... and as stated the pzero is a aged tire the have been making it for a while.. as for the others are all new.. pirelli will make them better very soon... but not for anything.. a tire as old of a construction as it is, the performance that it give it hung right on top with them all...

from that i chart i dont see a vast difference.. i see a small difference that the average drive would not be able to tell the difference.. besides the tread wear i will be the first to admit pirelli wears fast..

I have Pzeros on my car, and can confirm they have far less grip than the PSS, whether on road or grass.

they also are not nearly as consistent at the traction limit as the PSS either.
