Have him attempt to move the steering wheel and column up and down and then lock it into place and attempt to start then. If it is the steering lock

Have him attempt to move the steering wheel and column up and down and then lock it into place and attempt to start then. If it is the steering lock mechanism this might jiggle something inside to at least let him start it. Other thing to try would be to tap the steering lock mechanism plate that covers it. Then attempt to start. If no joy, then may have to get it towed to dealer.
