Pirelli makes the only F1 tire, not the best. They are the exclusive supplier, much like Goodyear is for NASCAR.

My experience (I have lots of experience) and available empirical data supports my claim that PSS > PZero. If anything because you can expect nearly double the longevity while maintaining better dry/wet performance. Is Pirelli bad? Is the PZero bad? No. I never said that. I just said that they aren't the best (right now). The PZero was a great tire when I used it. It's just that the Super Sport is just that much better.

also i never said that the pirelli was better, i just said they are what i like and what i use on my car.. im on car #33 so i have tried and had experiance with many many different brands of tires.. i couldnt tell u the different compounds or the specific makeup of the tire. but i can tell you what ones handel well in the rain/snow/dry etc.. and what one wore fast.. tread wear is the worst part of a pirelli.. i have owned many sets of pzero, and they are expensive.. the main reason for their fast treadwear is the super sof make of the tire.. its a compromise with the makeup that they used in that tire.. they gave up tread life for grip/handeling.. |

here is a link to the tirerack comparison.. yes the pss rated higher, as did all others. but its not a vast difference.. they are all very close... and as stated the pzero is a aged tire the have been making it for a while.. as for the others are all new.. pirelli will make them better very soon... but not for anything.. a tire as old of a construction as it is, the performance that it give it hung right on top with them all...
from that i chart i dont see a vast difference.. i see a small difference that the average drive would not be able to tell the difference.. besides the tread wear i will be the first to admit pirelli wears fast.. I have Pzeros on my car, and can confirm they have far less grip than the PSS, whether on road or grass.
they also are not nearly as consistent at the traction limit as the PSS either. |
