Surprised no one is talking about this on here.
Baltimore Grand Prix

Anyone going?

I know the past few times I've driven into baltimore just the sight of the retaining walls makes me want to drive the track soooo badly.

b1adesofcha0s 09-02-2011 12:33 PM

Wanted to go, but I will be in NY this weekend. Surprised that no one else mentioned it too.

shadoquad 09-02-2011 12:35 PM

m4a1mustang 09-02-2011 02:35 PM

I wonder how many drivers will be shot during the race by the spectators.

birdmanx1 09-02-2011 02:36 PM

:icon17: I don't believe myself; how can Charm City be the center of the wire? Hopefully there are no shootings... ;)

Even the fish @ the National Aquarium have guns! One time, some 64 year old woman got shot by a dolphin because she tried to cheat on the senior citizens discount.

I've never had any trouble in that downtown section. Wander a few blocks too far in the wrong direction however and it is a different story.

Downtown street races are lots of fun and extra loud due to all the reflection, this will be a fun one to watch.

The Inner Harbor area is OK. Lots of tourists and stuff around the Aquarium and that section. But you're right, if you walk too far in any direction you are in for a world of hurt. Some of the parking garages 1-3 blocks away are bordering some really sketchy areas and getting back to your car can be dangerous!!!

didymus 09-02-2011 04:20 PM

Downtown isnt that bad. Dont go wandering around though if you dont know the city. Glad I moved out of there. I lived right there and this is gonna really screw up traffic/etc. Would be cool though

4r3s 09-02-2011 05:32 PM

psshh by the way you all talk you'd think Baltimore averages a homicide a day or something....

Just like any town in America, there are good areas and bad areas. The Inner Harbor/Fells Point is where a lot of great things happen; as you go past some areas then you just have to exercise caution - nothing more that what you would have done else where. I mean if you walk around some bad areas waving your Japanese flag with money spilling out of your touristic duffle bag... chances are you'll get jump. I myself would jump you in that situation as well

I've lived in the area for a long time and actually love all the activities there are. Most of the issues happen during the summer with higher temperatures and in the ghetto. Don't get me started in SouthEast DC, some not so glam areas of Chicago, NY...

Pfft. Baltimore has nothing on PG County! :rofl2:

Remember at the start of this year, PG had 1 reported homicide per day for like the first 3 weeks or something? Sh1t got real for 2011 man. :shakes head:

eastwest2300 09-02-2011 07:01 PM

Man, lets just spread peace & love.. haha:p

PG stepped it up recently. It didn't use to be that bad. I def agree with what you're saying.:shakes head:

That graph further confirms how much safer the Baltimore suburbs are. I would have expected worse numbers given the really hot patch we had back in July. 1 death by asphyxiation.

I'm sitting on the 14th floor of the Baltimore World Trade Center, overlooking the end of the main straight (Pratt Street). The sound is amazing. Main race doesn't start until 3, but this is amazing.

All in all, it was amazing. I think next year I'll go to both the Indy and ALMS races. The sound echoing off the buildings was crazy awesome. The speed is intense. They'd appear out of nowhere doing 150+ and then brake in the blink of an eye for that first corner. Lot of overtaking down at that corner, too.

Some pix. I only had my iphone on me, and the windows of the building are tinted. But at least you can get a sense of the view. We got the end of the major straight and the hairpin.

Bertaut, I sat in absolutely no traffic coming in or leaving Bmore today. We were on the east side of the city, and there were no problems at all!
