MD is basically impossible to pass inspection. The ordeal my friend went through to get a stock '98 M3 through MD inspection was laughable. I mean, they failed it for EVERYTHING.

I lived in Rockville for a year when I first moved here and kept my cars registered in Illinois, IL drivers license, etc. I got pulled over for speeding twice during that time (once in MD) and when the cop questioned my license, I just said that I was a contractor here temporarily. Didn't even question that.

Damn, believe me man, I really want to, but I work for a premier law enforcement agency, and I work with some straight up a-holes, they will not allow me to bring my vehicle in the building until i have MD tags on it. They are that anal about it.

Im not an expert on this by any means but I would think the only things on your list that would cause you to fail are the custom painted head and tail lights. put the oem ones back on for inspection and slap em back on afterward. I would assume a junk yard would work for the parts if you dont still have them.

The mechanic just looked and laughed, and literally said did you pay anything yet for the inspection? I said yeah, $75.. he said go back inside and get your money back.. then he said look at what you've done to this car, you've modified everything, as hes laughing with me.. ahh, man, we both thought it was funny.

In MD as long as there are no problems with the frt end or brakes/tires/lights/ps belt/cat convertor/tint/seat belts...you should be ok.You only have to do it once.

Dude, if that was the case, I would have Maryland tags on my car. You cant have anything aftermarket on your car prior to you having it inspected. I believe thats a fairly accurate statement right there.

When I moved to MD I spent about $2k and 9 months replacing parts and doing maintenance on a 2 year old stock Scion xA trying to pass inspection (I took it three seperate times). The thing had 18k miles on it and still smelled new on the inside. I finally gave up on inspection, got two expired tags tickets over the course of a year when my TN tags were up, got frustrated and traded it in for the Z.

In the end I think I'm happier for it.

I live in Kensington, which is literally 2.5 miles from the district, Im sure 99.9% of the people on the forum knows where Washington DC is, and 99.9% of the people have no idea where Kensington, MD is.. Thanks for pointing that out though, Im glad I had to clarify for you.:ughdance:

I worked for PG county schools for 6 years in the 90s... I know where Kensington is. Just find a friend 2 miles away and register it in DC...

Eh? Well if you live in DC how would you know what would pass, or even need a MD inspection???

That's the distinction and why you were originally asked.

I dont live in DC, so it doesnt matter and its irrelevant.. and it would be dumb to live in the district JUST to get 1 of my 2 cars to pass inspection.
