I think it has something to do with the steering lock solenoid. Common failure issue with the 09's and first batches of 10's.

I know Kenchan here on the forums personally went out and got the part that was known to malfunction since his is an 09'. The part WILL fail, so he carries it around with him now lol.

On the inside of the driver side door where it has the tire pressure readings and stuff, it also has the build date of your Z. If your build date is on or before 10/2009 you may have the faulty unit. Likewise, if your Z's build date after 10/2009 you should be fine.

It was the steering lock btw. Warranty ftw.
