Maryland Front Plate Elimination Petition

Hi-TecDesigns 03-11-2010 07:27 AM

Added, though it's not the best-written petition...

I don't run with a front plate, anyway. In the 3+ years I've been in MD, I was pulled over in the S2000 once for no front plate, he let me off with a warning. Nothing so far in the Z.

agreed it is poorly written, only thing that really needed to be said was that we could cut the amount of money spent on making plates in half by eliminating the plate on the front.

My comment was essentially that it cut down on the cooling capability of the radiator, decreasing gas mileage. Arguably not enough to even measure, but it sounded good ;)

We need one for Virginia too!

But it going to need some rewording like for phrases like "restricts the performance of passenger vehicles"... that means to them racing, speed, etc. ;)

Lucky! I had never attached a front plate on my S until I was pulled over last week in Edgewater and was fined $60!

Seriously? No front plate? Shouldn't they be out fighting crime or pulling over people who speed excessively in school zones or drunk drivers or something? It's a stupid law. Majority of speed and red light cameras flash the BACK of the car anyway, so why do we need a front tag? It's just more free money for MDOT and the state of Maryland that doesn't go back into repairing and rebuilding the infrastructure.

Jon,

Agreed... the only valid reason for the front plate is so cameras can capture it. If police are chasing a car, they are rarely in front of it long enough to get the plate #, and if they are, it's a high-speed chase, so plate #s matter little at that point.

How old are you? I look pretty young, but at pushing 40, the attitude of cops change when they realize I'm not some punk kid tearing up the streets... I think that's what happened in my case. I was coming home from work on 95, not going over the speed limit, not tailgating, just changing lanes, and he pulled in behind me.

Radar and laser reflects REALLY well from license plates.

Radar and laser accuracy difference with plate on and off is night and day. Another way for the man to get yer money!
