Mid Atlantic Driving Loops
One of the discussions yesterday during our Starbucks get together, made me think about sharing one of my favorite "short" driving loops. It's only ~11.5 miles but is a great "Sunday morning attitude adjustment" drive.
To avoid "trouble", I won't share my PR for this loop (which OBTW was in an MX-5), but I look forward to improving it in the ZR! Henderson Loop - Google Maps |
I remember this! I had a friend who lived down in Clifton years ago and I used to think even then how fun the road was!

Personally I think the "Clifton Road" segment is a little better than Henderson, but still not a bad short loop -- I've not been on it since all the weather, should probably do a "pot hole" check in my truck before I do my next "Z Run"...:icon17:

Chapel Rd is insane if you like roller coasters.
I've encountered a number of police checkpoints on Henderson Road before so try not to go tooo fast just in case. They are usually right around a blind bend (the really tight switchbacks). |

Not in the Mid-A but out in Nor Cali this is where my Z stretches her legs every weekend:

Markham Road. Exit 44 off of 66 heading west from DC.
Regarding the cop thing, I think it was amusing. He probably saw the tire tracks in the parking lot that looked like they were made by a Civic LX, and thought, "These could be the jackasses." :D I think a lot of cops are gear heads. A few of my colleagues at my last place of employment enjoyed cars just as much as the next dude. In CA, a few higher-end tuners hooked up cops who brought in their cars for tuning and modifications. I don't know if there were additional perks included. |
