There are some clubs that offer track day insurance for peace of mind. I think SCDA was one of them.

A guy I know was able to get his insurance company (I forget which) to cover his track wreck by getting the track director to write a letter saying the event was a "driver safety class."

That used to work with some insurance companies, but they are getting wise to it now and putting in exclusions for any time your vehicle is on track, regardless of whether it is competitive or not.

yep, after going over my last renewal with USAA, it now specifically states that any driving on a prepared track, temporary or permanent, is not covered.

USAA is one of the best (for those that can get it) and I have seen them pay out in the past if it was a "driver training" event but I'm sure that now they are under pressure to reduce payouts and insurance cost.

Yep, they didn't have the clause until recently, and when I first started doing these they told they did cover hpde's as long as it wasn't competitive. I think the lambo/Carrera gt crash in Cali a few years ago is what startEd the exclusion clauses
