In addition to putting additional stress on the glass, you are also stressing the regulator mechanism. Plus the fingerprints, as per Merv. If you must use the glass to close the door push on the part...

The glass in the doors are tempered. Meaning it won't crack,it'll shatter. Tempered glass is much more harder to break,because it is basically heat strengthened. I don't close my door by the glass...
