I am not sure how it's like in the USA, but in Canada a 370Z is as rare as a Porsche. Actually scratch that, I see Porsches way more often. Here, I see a 370Z as often as I see a Lambo.

I can attest to that fact. In Canada, 370z’s are rare. It is one of the main reasons I bought one. In the 5 years I’ve owned my Nismo, I’ve only seen another one maybe twice.

Paint defects from the manufacturer do happen all the time. You had bad luck as you're the only case I've heard of this happening on a brand new Z personally. Steering lock does suck, I would hope...
