Hi! I bought the tape from amazon. It's called "3M Scotch Scotchcal Striping Tape (red 1/4 inch)" And I literally just tapped it around the rim without using any tool or marking. It's actually simple/easy to do. The tape is very durable and user friendly. You can even tape it on a plasti-dipped wheel. Took me roughly about 3 minutes each per wheel.

Well the only real problem was the melting....which was caused by the high temp. The temp we set based on experimental evidence from the previous time we did it and it went smoothly. Seems logical...

the question is do I need to buy a new head unit? If you just wanted to run an amp and sub, then you wouldnt need a headunit. But you also would probably not like the sound because the stock speakers...
