You're right, you can do it for $5k-ish. I priced it as "what would it cost to not have to replace this motor again", not what would it cost to throw in a used OEM shortblock.

I use the Prestone 50/50. It works fine. FYI, Nissan doesn't make coolant. Even though it says "Nissan", it's still aftermarket. It's not unicorn blood.

It's no different than paying $5K for a bodykit, $4-8K for a set of wheels, $3K for seats, ect. There's quite a few guys on this forum who have spent more in modifications than what they purchased...
