I think I was mainly surprised they tried to claim that some light knock was not only to be expected under load, but that it was a good thing to have happen

The real irony tho' is that their knock sensor is pretty sensitive -- I believe somebody on here had a cracked flexplate on the 7AT, and the noise it produced on start-up resulted in the knock sensor pulling tons of timing
