Sorry it took do long to respond. I used plastic/wood composite residential siding (one brand is called Trex but there are others) from Lowes home center. The material can be worked like wood but seems to be impervious to water in normal use. It can be primed and painted much like fiber glass. Total material cost was under one hundred bucks including primer and plasti-dip that I used as the final finish. They quite solid and easy to touch up or repair if needed.
