Hey Man,
Congrats on the purchase. I bought the car when it only had 4500 miles on it. Previous owner was a Doctor who died and the car sat idle in the garage until his son traded it in for a Subaru. I traded in my '13 BRZ for it, thinking it would be the same driving experience, only with more power. I only drove it for about 8 months/3000 miles before I just sort of lost enthusiasm for it. One of the reasons was what you yourself have outlined about the transmission. I never had any problems with the clutch. What you are experiencing seems, from what I've read, to be just the nature of the drivetrain. Road & Track describes it as a gearbox that 'doesn't like to be rushed'. An apt description, if you ask me. I referred to it simply, as "truck-like". Gear whine in first and second at low speeds is normal. I'm assuming they left the mods in place I had installed. I put Z1 post-MAF tubes on it with K&N filters and an ARK Grip exhaust. The factory system droned, adding to the cacophony of road noise that is part and parcel of the 370z experience. Love my BRZ- Its obviously not as fast as the Z, but its 700 lbs lighter, has a much slicker shifting gearbox, and I've always been partial to Lotus like handling over brute power. The Z is a pretty car. I had the oil changed at 7500 miles and had Redline synthetic put in it. Had zero mechanical issues during my short time owning it. Anyway, enjoy the car. I'm certainly enjoying mine, so everybody wins. Cheers!
