This is a very unique mod and it probably works a lot better than my built in Homelink rear view mirror. I have to be almost touching the garage door with the front bumper before the garage door opener receives the signal from the Homelink whereas with a regular door opener I can be like 25 yards away and still be able to open the door.

I have recently been having problems with it similar to what you describe. However, it used to have much better range, so I'm guessing it's just the 9V battery I'm still using several years later. I plan to hardwire it to the car when the battery dies completely.
