Update, I bought a new sensor and measured both openings on the oem/ Injen reservoirs. Conclusion the opening on the Injen was .030" too small. Took a Dremel tool an shaved off the lip on the sensor...

lol, I just did an oil change this past weekend and I removed the plastic plate not using the bunji cord method and to my surprise I didn't see any salt or pepper considering I only washed the car...
